I remember onevolleying a blackbird once back in the day, good times.
... I won't deny that the HP boosts weren't too kind to artillery volley capabilities. I wouldn't mind at all if they toned that back to somewhere between the first and the last HP boost, the first was sort of needed, but the second pushed it too far the wrong way imo. As for 1400's, the significant loss of dps relative to the other guns, something close to 35% less dps than Tach, is too much when you look at the volley advantage it has, about 23% over Tach again(all other guns are faster firing and lower volley with artillery having the honour of being the lowest dps of all). Note this is before bonuses, just a straight gun-gun comparison, so that 23% volley advantage would dissapear completely when one would use an abaddon(tbh nobody is crazy enough to do that, right )
The most frustrating thing about this game is that every single time that CCP makes a buff/nerf they absolutely, completely overdo it. From one extreme to another. The missile nerf: I wasn't here then but I do see the repercussions of that now. The HP buff: Wasn't there either but it seems that's where Minnies started their long downward spiral of being too skill intense and too ineffective. The nano nerf: Minnies reached the bottom of the pit with even more ships now being lolmobiles and Gallante starting on a path to join them with overweight mega blaster boats sweating on their way in to do some shooting. The ECM nerf: from everyone complaining about 100km+ falcon jamming to everyone laughing at a castrated, overpriced and useless Ewar hac (but coincidentally leaving the Amarr Curse with its enormous Neut/NOS range bonus). The NOS nerf: from portable cap filling station where everyone could play, to 100% useless in one easy step. The laser buff: Amarr change from portable disco lighting systems to FOTM pwnmonsters.
I came to a conclusion a while ago that CCP doesn't actually give a rats arse about truly balancing the game, but merely shifts the dial to the other extreme, so to speak, once the paying customers get crazy angry enough about the previous nerf/buff to start emo-rage-quitting faster than the boys in Iceland can afford to pay for their whale burgers on toast, i.e. when the number stats over on eve.coldfront.net start dropping again, whereupon they play with the dials and embark on yet another Unneeded Feature Gimmick(TM) craze like T2, T3 and WHs and painfully embarrassing ad campaigns promising nirvana in space to unknowing newbs.
That bit of bile out of me, I must say that the variable sized rigs are very nice and the skill queue is a godsend, so it's not all bad (whale burger tastes like crap, though ) and there might be some light on the horizon for us masochistic Minnies.
