Not sure if this goes here...
I am about to get into a Black ops ship and go to explore wormholes... Anyone got any experience on using these ships in unknown systems? How do they handle against the hard-hitting rats?

If you want to bring a T2 BS into a wormhole, the marauder is the superior choice. Black ops battleships are pretty useless, especially in wormholes where its cyno and jump bridge abilities don't work. You should also try not to think of wormholes as soloable content. Class 1 and 2 systems are soloable in a battlecruiser and class 1 won't let anything bigger than a battlecruiser in. Class 3 I wouldn't try to solo, though the anomalies are probably soloable in a well skilled and fitted command ship, a good drake or a marauder. In any other battleship including a black ops, you're not going to be able to solo class 3 sites.
I think if you want more useful advice, you need to give more information. Do you intend to solo? If not, what kind of group will you be with? And what is your motivation for using the black ops BS?

Edited by: Cameron Freerunner on 27/07/2009 17:11:00 To clarify: it is the WH to the system that determines the size of the ship(s) that can enter. There are WH types that will allow even freighters into and out of "easy" W-space systems. You can check Wormhole Thingie to get the IDs of the specific WH types and their mass allowances(there are several; I think S199 is one of them, but I could easily be wrong cause I'm at work and can't check). However, they are random and rare. You may find that getting out is harder than getting in.
That said: Black Ops is useless in W-space. |

There is no reason to bring TII into wormholes whatsoever. Anything soloable can be done in a drake. Everything else you will need wing mates. TII fittings on TI ships will suffice.

There is some reason to bring T2 ships in, but not much. A nighthawk will do a better job than a drake, for example, due to its ability to fit BCUs and still tank enough for C2/3 stuff. But in general, you're right. Drake is enough for soloable content and gangs of remote repair BS are the staple for class 3 and above.

Hector - I regularly do Class 3s in an Abaddon. A Black Ops would likely be overkill for a class 3 but not enough for a class 4. I don't think its worth the risk.

Class 3 anoms are easily soloable in a strategic cruiser. In some respects thats what they're designed for. I can imagine a command ship being able to solo class 3s also. It really does come down to signature of the ship, its omni resists and the tank. Once you have a fit that you know will comfortably tank the waves, then its really just a matter of killing at your leisure.
One other thing to consider though is the spacial anomalies that are sometimes in systems. They can boost your armor resists for instance, but really cripple your shields. There are some with amazing Ewar effects, but your tracking, missile velocity and other factors are negated. Use Wormhole Thingie to determine what effects your wormhole system might have.
And black ops really isn't worth bringing in. No real use for its abilities. Stick to marauder or tech2 cruisers I'd say.
