Is it possible to extract low end moon goo and make a profit?
04: Atmospheric Gases, Evaporate Deposits, Hydrocarbons, Silicates Moons that have combinations of the R4 but not dual of one type. eg. Planet 1 Moon1 - Atmospheric Gases, Evaporate Deposits, Hydrocarbons.
I have tried every calculation and combination that I can think of to make this work but the cost of fuel just doesn't make it worth it. Ive look at maximising by having unprotected small pos's with only using coupling arrays to get extra Moon Harvesters but still not worth it.
Tried running 2 small Pos with 4 Harvesters (total) and a medium with a simple reaction but its still not profitable. looked at a medium with 2 harvesters and a simple reaction for the rare moons that have both requirements but still not profitable.
I would love some advice.
Thank you |

i have found that NO its not very profitable...
Previously in other Alliances we did Moon Gas reactions as a secondary function of a Tower, Primary being a JB, Cyno Beacon/Jammer etc....
To minimize costs I would usually use a Small Tower mining one resource and a Medium Mining another and doing the Simple Reaction. |

Would tossing a Moon Extractor into a POS otherwise slated for research be worthwhile? I don't make minerals. I just make ore 20% cooler. |

I say if you have a POS up and you have the room for an extractor. then go for it. unless you have no way of hauling it somewhere. :) |

By themselves gasses are just not worth it, as you already found out yourself. At best you will come close to breaking even on the fuel costs. However, if you have a POS that is profitable by itself (reactions, research, etc.) and you have some spare CPU, adding harvesters can give you a few extra spacebucks per month. |

I've been working on the same thing too! .. Also found that it's just not economically viable as it stands with the POS fuel costs as they are. Low-sec moon mining is a dead end as far as I'm concerned. All the 'good' moons, i.e. ones with materials you can turn a profit with, are already taken thanks to the dotlan mapping. If they opened 0.4 for moon mining there'd be a land grab, which could be funny, but at the end of the day it looks like it's 'null-sec or no' for moon mining and profitability.

Outside of hulkageddon, platinum with a small tower kinda works. However prices of fuel rose 20% and carteling of tech which is plats reaction partner cut demand of plat, so Its probably not worth the hauling time at the moment, if it ever truely was.

Oh look, a POS funtime discussion from 5 years ago.
The simple answer is no. The complex answer is still no. |

Actually if you just want to offset some of the fuel costs of running a tower, it only becomes a bad idea if your making less isk than it costs you to run the moon miner/s and associated POS parts.
I know of several corps who do exactly that.
