Hi all,
Just a quick question out of curiosity - I strongly suspect I have missed a trick here, but would like your thoughts.
Given that T2 missiles (in this case, let's say Scourge Fury) do more damage and have a "higher" set of pre-req's to use, how come they are way cheaper to buy than say, Caldari Navy Scourge. I was shopping around last night, and was able to get the T2 versions for less than 450 ISK each, but the Caldari Navy version was closer to 1500 each.
I'm sure there is a really obvious reason for this, but for the life of me, cannot see why the less damaging missiles are more expensive.
Thanks for any thoughts in advance!!

Edited by: Crackzilla on 28/07/2009 16:47:38 Faction ammo is usually better than t2 stuff. T2 ammo is decent but has drawbacks. Faction is expensive without much of the compromises.
Look at explosion radius. Faction nearly halves the radius versus t2. So t2 does great damage against larger ships but much of it is wasted against smaller ships. Faction has the ability to do less damage but a greater percentage of that damage will apply.
Or look at fury versus precision. Faction does nearly the damage of fury but has an explosion radius comparable to precision. So in pvp faction is typically better.

Also, increased performance at low skill requirements means higher prices. For example, check out the meta 4 shield power relays vs the t2 ones. Both give the same bonuses iirc, but t2 is harder to fit and requires more skillpoints.

In general long range T2 ammo is very good, and T2 short range ammo is pretty worthless. Missiles are slightly different, but typically the dps difference between T2 and faction is not large enough to warrant the penalties on the T2 (especially tracking/range penalties).

Not everybody can use T2, everybody can use faction. T2 ammo has specialized purposes (usually specialized for range or for damage, trading off the other), whereas faction ammo is non-specialized, basically "T1 but better".

T2 prices are driven down to near-production-cost by droves of inventors. That's just how much a T2 missile costs (plus some half-decent markup, of course). So, yeah, a Fury Scourge ends up costing a bit under 300 ISK a piece.
Faction ammo prices are driven down by hordes of mission-runners. However, there's a certain amount of ISK-for-LP people just won't go under, like, say, 500 ISK per LP. Actually, for such not-so-convenient-to-transport goods, even 1000 ISK per LP is not too absurd. Considering one CN scourge costs a T1 Scourge (40-50 ISK) plus 600 ISK plus 0.6 LP in the LP-shop, you can't expect to see any below 950 ISK... and you can fully expect to see them at 1250 ISK a piece or higher.
So... it's simply a matter of "that's how much they (roughly) cost to create".

Not sure if its still way out of balance, but another funny one is Meta 4 Ballistic Control Systems versus Tech II. Last time I checked, T2 was like 2m, and Meta for was like 35m, lol.
