Hey folks!
Returning to Eve after a long absence. What is an epic Arc? I see a journal spot for it. What are they, where do I get/do them, are they worthwhile, anyone have a link to an FAQ or anything?

There is only one epic mission arc at the moment and it doesn't have any rewards, not even standing. Pretty boring linear garbage if you ask me, although some people enjoyed the story (I didn't but meh). It starts with the agent named Sister Alitura, I think she's in Arnon. A SOE station there, anyway.
CCP will bring out some more of them in the next expansion. ---

The current one is a intro level thing given out by Sister Alitura in Arnon. It leads you through all four empires in a chase after some rogue drones and a mysterious guy who is connected to them in some way.
Is it worth it? Well, the payout is a bit higher than the average mission at that level, but there is nothing really spectacular monetary-wise. It's decent pay for a starter character and gives some Sisters standing. No real loot and no "unique bonus item" as was promised in an old dev blog - maybe that comes with the August L4 Epic Arc.
Apart from that it was a nice break from the regular missions, but essentially they are the same "fetch stuff", "blow stuff up" and "haul stuff across the sector" kinda thing, only about 50 missions connected to each other. At two points you can chose between several branches, but that has little effect overall. My biggest beef with the Epic Arc is a) that the story is very vague. You encounter some rogue drones and kill them, and in the end kill another guy who was killing the drones and the drones watch this and smile. No explanation or anything is given there, it feels kinda weird. And b) the end is pretty anti-climatic. I was like "Is that the end? Really? Or do I have to find another guy and continue the arc?". And IMO if you do not realize that you've reached the end of something Epic it's not that epic at all :)

I agree that tastes are personal, me, as a newb enjoyed it for 3/4 reasons, veterans may find it boring. Rewards are awesome (for a newb), starting with 50k isk + 50k (time reward) up to 210/250k in latest mission, plus wise use of a salvager/market the entire story arc is a really easy 20/30 million.
All the mission are easy, i run the arc with a noobly fitted tristan and a even worse fitted catalyst, only one mission at the end of chapter 2, i required aid from a mate, having to down a cruiser which had a shield recharge higher than my dps and a decent dps, definitely soloable if i was more aware about how to fit better the ships, and the very last fight i had to put aside the tristan and the catalyst, at that point i had enough skills, experience and money to take out a decently fitted thorax which did the job in no time.
I took it really easy, took a lot of time going back and forth to salvage corpses and empty the ship, saved some time with catalyst due to her higher capacity. But at the end i really enjoyed it, for a newb it was a good school about the game. And i'm looking forward to see more arcs.
cheers

I've been running it in an Enyo simply for the pure pleasure of flying a long storyline like that.
Could I make more money elsewhere, sure. But EVE isn't my job it's something I do for fun.
Personally, I've found the Epic Arc fun. Which is all it needs to be for me.
May God stand between you and harm in all the Empty places you must walk

I did the whole thing in about 7 hours one weekend. The statements about the ending are absolutely correct, it's rather anti-climactic and doesn't really explain what was going on. A couple of the missions are much harder than the typical level 1, which they are supposed to be. It didn't make me a lot of money, but it was a nice change of pace and I rather enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the level 4 epics they're supposed to be introducing. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |
