Dr Caymus started out as a pure research and production char in 2003, right at the very start of the game, with atributes set to those particular skills and obviously maxed them out, and it was only much later when atribute remapping became a reality a few years ago, that his char startd to train all the other skills....
I still remember when he had those reseach and production skills maxed out and could barely fly a cruiser and had no combat skllls trained at all.....
Most of the other players in the list started out as balanced atribute chars where all skills trained at the same speed, hence the 10+ million SP that Dr Caymus still has over the rest of the high sp Chars in the game that started at the same time he did in 2003. |

I agree that CCP should add a few vanity skills that can go to lvl 6 just for giggles. As Chribba is at the top I suggest, allowing him to upgrade all ship skills to Lvl 6 with the lvl 6 bonus granting "25% increase in Veldspar mining yield".
It wouldnt unbalance the game but would allow Chribba a few more options for his veldspar drilling activities |

Got about 184M on my 2nd big account, so in about 8 and a bit months I should have 2 chars in the 200M club. |

Congrats, Drahcir!
Looks like Kain D'Worker will also make it to 200 in a couple of months, prior to EVE's 10th anniversary. I wonder if there are others nearing the mark (or past it) that aren't on eveboard...

I'll only hit that mark by about 2 weeks after Eve's 10th birthday( around late may), and so will dosperado by 3 days ahead of me.....
This char's 10th birthday is only on july 29th 2013 though. |

I'd like to say I'm getting there soon, but the 2003 account I have didn't train....in the most effective manner, shall we say, in the early days :-P That being said, he is at 153 million sp. This account is in the 134 million range, so I guess I have a ways to go.
I'm content in training this account so that whole skill categories are finished. Five categories down, and thanks to new skills released, I lost one other that I have to work on now :( (Navigation!). Mechanic is probably 45 days from being complete as well. And by complete, I mean in public skills.

What is amazing is that even with 200+ mil SP he still doesn't have MANY of the skills to LvL 5, hell he doesn't have several skills trained AT ALL. That goes to show just how much skill PS there really is in Eve and how even a toon this old is still kind of a noob in some respects. That should be a lesson for newish players, it doesn't really matter if you have a ton of LvL 5's or just a few LvL 3's, Eve is all about tactics and not nearly as much about SP. That is all. |

I could further buff up leadership and electronics and armor skills, with a couple of shield skills, but that's about it at least as far as combat related skills are concerned and in any case that's a joke to train up compared to the 4 years it took me to get to the point where i am in ship command alone.

True to a point, but keep in mind i have no interest in research/industry/ production/ mining skills at all....Their just there to keep the char training when the time comes that everything that may have an half decent impact in combat is done and maxed out.
In all, i can see that happening once i've passed the 200 skill mark maxed to level 5 and having about 240~250 million sp, at which point i really hit a big training wall, period.

What old farts like me need is content beyond what exists right now, that is so increadibly hard to train up and the skills so hugely expensive, that only the most dedicated players willing to take on such challenges would be willing to do so, but as always, CCP takes us old farts for granted and also tries to avoid the usual argument that if they release such skills, it further increases the skill point gap between the older vets and young players, which is aan argument as old as eve itself.......I've been hearing it for almost 9 years now.
And it's still true.

And when you've reached the bottom on what the char wants trained?......Keep in mind that CCP wants specialisation to be a factor, and as it is i've already trained for every combat ship for all 4 races, even all 4 titans are maxed out and people call me crazy for doing this as you can only fly one ship at a time anyhow.
Same goes for all weapons in game, so all that's left are mainly non ship related skills for which i have no interest to begin with......Should players that have been with the game for a decade be purposefully slowed down in their chosen skill development path because CCP hasn't released even more demanding skills yet?
Do you honestly think i wanted to train and max out all 4 races to begin with?.......How long has it been since we've been stuck with tech 3 cruisers and nothing more has been released yet, be it frigates, destroyers, battlecruisers or even battleships, so i think it's fair to say that CCP is seriously behind Schedule in some aspects here. |

I would LOVE to see CCP add more skills to specific play style, further distinguishing them from other play styles. Also, I think ALL Specialization skills like XX Weapon/Drone Spec should be moved up form Rank 5 to like Rank 8 or even 10. If you REALLY want that 2-10% edge over the next player, then you should REALLY have to dig your teeth into the training time. Granted that only accounts for maybe 1 1/2 yrs total extra training time (at Rank 10) even for every Spec skill in Eve, but that's kind of the point, it's SPECIALIZATION, you should be a MASTER at it, not just some random player who trained 1.28 mil SP (20+ days) to get 10% better at a thing. They should also add more Specs, to things other than weapon systems.
That is all. |

And yes I know about the issue of needing LvL 4 spec to train the next higher thing, CCP has already admitted that this is a balancing issue but I can't remember if they talked about NOT req small spec to train med spec or if they'd just reduce it to LvL 3, which is inline with other skill path progression.
It's why i left the specialisation skills for weapons at lvl 4 to be honest, the 2% gain for every level trained just isn't Worth the hassle given that it's a rank 8 skill, so i can live with 98% of the max damage a weapon will ever be able to do in practical terms Under equal fittings.
I might eventually do them, but it's a last priority issue basically. |

Indeed, but since they take so long in releasing content, or in this case content for the old farts of the game, as i haven't seen anything Worth training since tech 3 cruisers were released 2 years ago, that one year you mentioned isn't much time to get things going by CCP's usual pace. |

I have 150kk on the combat char and i don't care as long as it a combat skill. And i don't have problems to trein indusrty stuff when i'll run out of skills because i've trained everything i need 2 or 3 years ago...
But the lack of skills is concerns me a bit too. Maybe they should consider a VI skills? A titans to VI... Holy sheet in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. Well, right now i'm on my way to wrap up the marauder skill to lvl 5, and let's compare that to the large gun specialistion to lvl 5 shall we?....Marauder skill is a rank 10 skill while the large gun is a rank 8 one, and as you've mentioned it only gives a 2% bonus, while the marauder skill is only a few days longer to max out, but in the case of the vargur marauder, gives out an extra 7.5% to shield boosting and 7.5 % to turret tracking......It's easy to see which one between those 2 skills is Worth more in terms of training first.....The bonuses are much bigger with the marauder skill.
Yes i do have near 200 million sp and played for nearly 10 years, but i do remain practical in terms of which skills have a better payoff for the time needed to max them out, and it certainly isn't the large gun specialisation with it's 2% bonus...It's something to do eventually, but no rush.
Now if you're after elite certificates as the main objective, i can see the above skill taking priority over the marauder skill. |
