Edited by: Babar on 03/10/2004 01:38:56 Just got my hands on the starship engineering skill, and wonder if it's too late for the whole research-agent-thing at this point.
I don't have the prerequsite skills higher than 3/4 either, so probably won't be starting off in another 2 weeks. Figure i should have enough standing with the corp to start off on the highest-ql lvl3 research agent by then.
Thoughts?
Also, which agent should i go for? I assume the highest quality one is best, or is there some reason to pick a lower-qual one?

The intent of CCP was to have accumlated RP's give an advantage, but they definately don't want to make it too difficult for new players. Also, of the two prerequisites, the Mechanic one is useful any time you get shot at, so nobody ever regretted training that to 5. I think Science is a prerequisite for other more practical skills too, which a big reason why the research pool is so huge. It is not much of a stretch at all for any experienced player to start research projects.
The current research system makes it not too likely (but definately possible) to get a BPO from a new research project. But I think any changes CCP makes to this system would be done with an eye towards making it more likely that research will pay off in some way eventually. They realize players with 6 months and 60k RP's invested in research projects tend to get a little fed up.
ps - starship engineering are probably the most crowded research fields and has the smallest number of possible payouts. So your odds are lower vs other fields though your potential payout could be awesome. As for which agent, I dunno. Perhaps the stickied research thread has some good tips for that.
