Simple Change: In chat windows, make it an option to only see players. I know CCP wants eve:online to be a social game and all, but please. Sometimes all I want to do, is sit and mine. Not listen to some nubb on what skills to get to max refining efficiency, how much that costs, what refining means, yada yada yada.
All I want to do, is mine, and see the chat window to look amongst the players who enter local in 0.0 if any of them are RED.

What on earth do you mean by "players"? Guys with multiple girlfriends are not sitting at home playing EVE. If you mean "EVE Players", you can already see them in Local or any other concurrently-updated chat window.

He only wants to see the list of names of those in local without the corresponding chat box. I must agree with his request because there is little to no need for the chat portion of the local window.

Yeah, I'd really miss that one.
I like especially the flair of Jita local... it's like a prison shower with hundreds of soap bars on the floor. You never know what you'll get, or do you?

uhm, huh? Oh so an eve-player has no girlfriends? Is that what you are trying to say?
And if so, do you really think that all the EVE-players are guys?
Oh, and yeah, for the sake of argument, lets just say for a moment that, yeah, I am a player, no sorry, an EVE-player. A lonely man, with no girlfriend. Why would I, as the EVE-player you suggest me to be, want to remove the chat???

I for one would love the ability to turn off the player icons in chat windows. That way 3x players would be visible without scrolling.

This would actually be really nice. I don't care what people's portraits are - just doesn't concern me, and doesn't add much if anything to gameplay. But it would make watching local vastly better.

oh and of course, would also be nice with an AFC (away from chat) icon on the character portraits or whatever to see who is just watching local, and who is available for chat as well.
This would make it so people who really need to talk know who is listening in, and who couldn't give a flying ferox.

In the chat window to the right of the a- and A+ icons are 3 square icons, one is labled "show text only", the next "show text with small portrait" and the third "show text with big portrait". I suggest you toggle "text only", in which case the chat window looks like an IRC chat instead of a player icon filled mishmash.
And go into options and disable the render-when clicked option too.

Good idea Det , the chat sstem does need an upgrade so hopefully if we get one it will include the features like this that are needed.
