Howdy folks,
Apocrypha 1.5 is just around the corner and it brings plenty of improvements and fixes with it. We think you'll be happy with the changes we've made; of course now we need to put it to the test in a "live-like" situation! To that end we will be running a series of fleet fights and other mass-tests on our main test server, Singularity.
These tests will begin Wednesday, August 5. We need at least 100 pilots, preferably 400+ā the more people who show up, the better. _________________________________ Test schedule:
Wednesday [August 5] @ 19:00 GMT --Special test of Factional Warfare Tuesday [August 11] @ 18:00 GMT Thursday [August 13] @ 18:00 GMT _________________________________
How to connect to Singularity for this test:
- Make a copy of the current Tranquility (TQ) client
- Visit the Sisi patch page.
- Patch the copied client to the Singularity build
- Login to the singularity test server
- Join the in-game channel "FleetTesting"
- Disable brackets
- Listen for instructions and ask questions in-channel
What exactly is being tested?
- The first test will be of Factional warfare
- THe other tests will be split into two parts, the first part will focus on Fleet vs. Fleet open combat
- Second we will move the engagement to a Starbase-siege (POS)
- You should pay attention to your FPS (use ctrl+f to view in-game)
- Anyone able to use multiple accounts is strongly encouraged to bring your alts!
- CCP staff and ISD will be on hand prior to the test to help move players to the starting location
- Don't forget to fill out the feedback thread after the test (links will be clearly posted at the end of the test!)
What should I bring?
- You will want a Battleship, carrier, dread, or support ship
- Fit drones!
- Give weapon linking a try
- Spider tanks 4tw

Maybe you know it better as "weapon grouping."
You know, where you stack all identical weapons on your ship into one so you only have to click once to fire them all?

Because it really, really sucks.

nah its not weapon grouping. wiki: "The secondary fire of the Link Gun allows you to 'link up' with other team-mates currently wielding a Link Gun. When doing this, your plasma will turn the colour of your team. The person who is being linked up will receive a power boost to their shots (about twice the damage) and their plasma turns yellow. The more people that link up to them, the more powerful their shots get."
so its a new feature of 1.5 release

It's in the wiki? I just looked and I can't seem to find it. Can you link me to this, please?

I figured it was likely something like that, which is why I asked for the source.
So, it's weapon grouping with a different name then?

Are we actually going to get preliminary patch notes, or will it be a "Get on the test server and guess what what the changes are" type situation.

Full/partial patch notes are rarely released on SiSi, as they leak to the public and people start to think everything in there is final. I wouldn't expect anything.

Speaking of which.. it seems like clicking on "In Testing" under "Patch Notes" does not show you the patch we are testing, but actually the patch that is live right now. "In Development" has not been updated since 2008, either.

I still suck very much at even finding a step-by-step instruction for getting on there. Yes, I am paranoid as hell about screwing up my game and having to redownload it. I've had enough problems all summer. ________________________________________________

Just read it, for some reason I'm thick and it doesn't really help me.
I have nothing but the regular Eve. Do I have to make a new folder for the Test server, where do I have to put this folder, and do I just highlight the Eve fold and copy it. ________________________________________________

I have nothing but the regular Eve. Do I have to make a new folder for the Test server, where do I have to put this folder, and do I just highlight the Eve fold and copy it.
Step by Step
1. Copy your Entire contents of Eve Folder (Not the folder itself). 2. Create new Folder anywhere on your computer, call it what you want. 3. Paste entire contents into said newly created folder. 4. Find the latest TQ-Sisi patch on the website, download it and then run it. When prompted, point it to your NEW folder. 5. Create a shortcut to the new eve client you have (The eve.exe in the new folder) 6. Edit the Shortcut so that the "Target" field has /server:87.237.38.50 at the end (After "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\Evetest\eve.exe" [Note this is just an example]) so it should look like "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\evetest\eve.exe" /server:87.237.38.50 in full. The directory may be different depending on where you initialy made the new folder. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Np. I just read through the how to connect to the test server part too and I could have swore there was a set of steps like Blane posted so as to not mess up your primary install.

Maybe Mitnal would have explained it better?
Oh and while copying the Eve Folder all I can think of is this.
And believe me, when I saw this thread the first thing I did was look for the sticky on how to install it. ________________________________________________

Yeah Zym dropped the ball on that one. I can see it now on the first test day right after the event is over and the forums overlflow with 'wtf I can't connect to tq and I'm on a limited bandwith isp and now I gotta dl 2 gigs??!??!!!RAWR!!!' poasts of DOOM.
Also xkcd ftw.

Heh yup. This all reminds me of the hassle I went through just to get Halo: CE to work. It would probably be easier if I do this more often, but sadly like many things that are important, there's almost never a chance to do it a lot to become accustomed. ________________________________________________
