This is the mission i am on, my ship was destroyed and when i came back and looted it there was no mission item in it. I quit the quest but it doesn't give the mission item back again and i sent a petition to a gm and they told me since its not a glitch they cant do anything for me.
My question is, how can i get the mission item back?

Mission items are usually sold on the market by someone, if not by NPCs. - Auditing and consulting
Before asking for investors, please read http://tinyurl.com/n5ys4h and http://tinyurl.com/lrg4oz

If the item was destroyed by the NPC and it is a "unique item" (almost sure it is, from what I recall) you are out of luck.
You will not be capable of completing the mission arc. Your only option is to contact the agent and inform her that you failed the mission.
You will not be capable of restarting the arc now, but after a cool down period (2 months from what I recall) you will be capable to do it again from the start.

If i have to wait 2 months for that mission chain to open up again how would i go about finding another epic arc chain, or is there only one? I have only been playing for a couple weeks so i don't really know how to find new missions, because i just followed the original one i got when i started the game. If anyone could give me some advice i would appreciate it, thanks.

There is only one epic arc at the moment, so if you've messed it up you're out of luck for the time being.
There are, however, LOADS of corps to run missions for. The easiest thing to do is pull up the galaxy map (F10), and set the star colouring to My Information->Available Agents. You should notice the map lighting up like a Christmas tree, indicating all the agents from whom you can currently accept missions.
Read the FAQs on this forum, and/or use a site like EVE Agents to narrow down your search for agents that meet specific criteria. Basically you'll want to pick a corp, pick what types of missions you want to do, and then find agents in that corp that give you lots of those missions. More missions for one corp will improve your standing, and let you access higher-quality and, eventually, higher-level agents.

Like i said in my first post, i contacted a gm and he said that it wasn't a glitch so he couldn't reset it for me, could the gm have been mistaken?

You should tell them that you killed all npc's and structures but mission item just didnt drop (not that you failed to loot the item), then in response gm should reset this part of storyline or whatever you are doing, because of unknown error of some type with database or something else which in result gives you no item you were searching for :)
If you already told gm that you failed to loot the item, maybe you could try to close existing peition, delete it (probably this will take some time) and start new petition just with better story :)

Just for the record, anyone doing this is at risk of getting banned for abusing the petition system. Not to mention it's cheating. Also, just so you know, you'll be viewed by most players as somewhere between a macro miner and a can flipper. Good luck non the less

I put in a petition explaining the situation better and the gm reset the mission for me no problem.
