Hey, I'm setting up another computer on the network and I would like to know how to set it up to play EVE remotely, I've read about VNC, tightVNC, but all I got is a black screen and I can't even go back to use remote desktop to other stuff cos when I loggin it logs off instatly. I'm probably being doing something wrong.
Remote computer: PIII 1000ghz, 512mb sdram, geforce 2 mx, windows xp sp2. (had to uninstall latest drivers from nvidia also cos they won't play eve)
Hope anyone has an answer for this,
Thx

Playing EVE requires a lot more processing and updating than VNC can handle. As a matter of fact, no modern MMORPG can be played remotely; VNC can only provide a fraction of the bandwidth required to display such a smorgasboard of multimedia.
Come to think of it, I find it peculiar that you should choose to try doing so.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
It's not like I wanted to have a game experience remotely, but since I have now another computer on the network, and a 14 day trial from mmorpg, I thought I could put this guy to do a little hauling while I mined. :P And when I read on a previous post that some guy was doing missions at work with vnc, I just wanted to give it a try.

Over your home network, 100MBps, UltraVNC may be able to provide you with some sort of response, but you may be better off just running both accounts on the same computer, it will slow down the overall performance of both copies of the game, but not as much as trying to play over VNC. Make a copy of your EVE directory (make it like EVE-2 or soemthing) and run both versions in windowed mode. You should be able to Alt-Tab between them fairly easily, as i have had no switching problems, when eve i run in windowed mode. Now, try it fullscreen, and you may have some issues.

Edited by: Mechanix on 27/10/2004 20:49:50 Might be better off buying a switch, and have each PC running with its own monitor and use the same kbd & mouse.
EDIT: get a digital one, not one of those crappy mechanical ones.

I once ran eve remotely, it took me an hour just to log in and train a skill. i was using a trial version of something called PC Access.

1. Im playing with 2 accounts on 2 monitors. Since Exodus the Performance loss is extreme :( (Got 3000+ Athlon 64, Radeon 9600XT 128MB, Audigy)
2. You don't need a second Copy of EVE. The Client can handle 2 or more accounts without problem. You can run multiple instances of the same eve.exe.

Theoretically, it should be possible, especialy if you're willing to go with a bit of a slide-show style update speed (perfect for that afk hauling alt). However, doing it effectively would probably require some very specialised protocols - the current ones (VNC et al.) were designed far more with "business" desktop applications in mind (word, excel etc), and are highly optimised to give good results for these applications - often these optimisations actually make handling 3D renderings (i.e. games) harder.

Edited by: Sennol on 28/01/2005 03:08:22 I play eve at lunch from work almost everyday. I've used realVNC, WinVNC, tinyVNC, etc. Currently using tightVNC server version 1.2.9 on the home computer.
Key thing for me is to put eve in WINDOW MODE as small as possible, 1024x768.
if I try to run full screen it black screens the remote computer and seems to lock up VNC.
I wouldn't recommend it for rat hunting or anything like that, but it's handy for mining (I can fill and haul about two containers during my lunch ) and it's really handy to just duck in at 10:07am to select the next skill to train.
*edited to put in VNC Server info.
