So i'm trying to get back into high sec for a bit and have undertaken the sec status grind. I'm at -4.0 which is enough to get me into 0.5 systems where my mission running alt does his level 4's. Is it possible to gang up and let my alt tank whilst I take out all the battleships - or is it only belt rats that give the status change? Also - does anyone know if you get status changes whilst grouped as a group effect?

Edited by: Taram Caldar on 05/08/2009 12:25:50 Sec status changes work as follows: Every 20 minutes you get a boost to sec status based on the largest sec status changing action you did in that timeslice.
For example: For 20 minutes you ran a mission and killed 20 battleships, 30 cruisers and 10 frigates.
For the 20 minute timeslice you would get a sec status adjustment of: ~ 0.02 points (battleship kill) (I think some larger bountied battleships give larger boosts but, frankly, I don't pay that much attention to it so can't be sure.)
Note: To get a sec status adjustment the rats you are killing MUST have a bounty on them. Some mission rats do not carry bounties (mercenaries, faction navies, drones) thus not all missions help with sec status.
In my experience it is faster to rat in belts or do lowsec/0.0 cosmic anomalies to raise sec status. Missions do work as well, and are generally 'safer' but you will not raise your sec status as quickly.

The bounty on the rat weights hugely in how much it affects your sec status. Missions like Worlds Collide and Duo of Death are excellent for the high bounties. I recently grinded up from -10 to -4 in nullsec, then the rest in high sec. It was much quicker in nullsec as I only had to engage a single rat per 15-20 min period, which were usually much higher value. However, I was earn very little ISK so felt very grindy.

Afaik, the best way to get your sec status up is still to kill 1 battleship in a system, jump to a different system, kill 1 more battleship, and so on. Iirc, when you jump it resets that 20minute timer mentioned in another post, so you get your bounty & sec status payout immediately and you're ready to get another one.
Then again, my main (this toon) is straight-up -10.0 and I honestly make an effort to avoid blowing up rats so I can keep it that way. As a result, I might be talking out of my ass but meh.

I've heard that too but have yet to see it actually work when I was trying to raise sec status so I tend not to give that advice. If folks want to try it it's their call. If it works, cool. I've just personally never seen it work. Then again, as I said, I don't pay super-huge attention to it.

It works just fine. Kill one rat per system, jumping resets your timers.
Note to the OP, trying to use missions to fix your sec status will take a LONG time. __________________________

So jsut to confirm. I kill 1 BS rat in 1 system, jump to a new system then back to the original system and my timer is reset?
I thought it was 1 timer PER system, System 1 - kill rat, jump system 2 - kill rat, jump system 3 - kill rat, jump etc etc.

The second one is correct. You end up making a 4-5 system loop where by the time you jump into the first system again you do so just in time for the sec bonus, so you can restart the timers with another kill. _________________________________________________ If you're tired of all this 'Paste this into your signature' crap, paste this into your sig.... I been whoring sec status for the past month on and off in null sec and this is what I found to be the fastest way.
Find a belt with a 2 BS rats plus whatever is sitting with them. Kill 1 BS then move over one system repeat the process. Going between those 2 systems will allow the spawn timer to happen causing the original BS to show up. People been saying its 20 minute timer between sec increases but they are wrong its every 10 minutes.

For me the best way to raise my sec status in hisec it's to take a lvl4 fat mission (extravaganza, blockade etc; no wc or merc/drone misions) and kill a bs rat every 15-20 min then dock; all you need it's to watch when your sec status it's up then undock kill a bs rat and so on. P.S. in this way you can read alot of books.

Thereafter you can get a sec hit every 11 minutes if you time the deaths of the rats right. Yes it's 10 minutes but allowing for pilot error 95% of the timers will trigger at 11.

Some missions in my experience DON'T give sec increase hits, for whatever reason. The prime culprit being Worlds Collide (I only ever do Serpentis side).
My favourite way used to be A Domi, Blockade, 1 Ogre, 1 Hobgoblin, afk for many hours.
Shoot 1st, shoot some more, keep shooting, some more shot, and if anyones alive after ask a few questions. Just a soldier following orders.

Some missions (even pirate faction NPC's with bounties) do not give sec boost - most notably World's Collide
It's very stupid, asinine and random.

I have found that a fleet fomration has caused me to recive more sec stat gain, by getting two consecutie sec gains. One right before fleet formation, and on right after. (In the same system) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In highsec grinding I normally just get a mission with a lot of BS's that I can tank easily, snipe one, and cruise around tanking them while I read a book before popping another after my sec status goes up a little. This normally results in me getting very bored, jumping in a probe ship and going into other peoples missions and either trying to pick a fight or killing their BS's
Pretty boring tbh, and I can do it faster in 0.0 with a BC and a chain of 3-4 systems... even if the trusec is crappy ------------

find a nice loop or about 8 systems where you can travel. kill one bs per system. train fast talk to 3 and you should be back in empire within 4 hours. you can get your sec increase every 3-4 minutes if you do it properly.
it also helps to remember which systems you have been in and out of.
