an Opinion Poll was sent out by The EVE Observer [NEWS.] to find out how the Pod populace felt about the hot button topic of Faction Warfare.
of 650 Pilots, 421 replied. These pilots were polled equally across cultural lines and randomly selected from Jita, Amarr, Pator, Yulai and Luminair as well and taken randomly from the various associated channels and the IGS, these are the results:
Which of the four major empires do you feel has the most ethical stance in the current war?

Caldari 42% of 421 pilots Amarr 22% of 421 pilots Other 17% of 421 pilots Gallente 12% of 421 pilots Minmatar 7% of 421 pilots

The EVE Observer invites the Intergalactic Summit to comment.
* If you were among the first 50 pilots polled you may have had to pay a CSPA charge. The EVE Observer apologizes for this and will reimburse any pilot who sends a screen shot showing this charge to Purple Hydra the Administrative Assistant for The EVE Observer. ** The EVE Observer's own CSPA costs have been donated by "Interbus, for all your transportation needs" |

Points of note.
"Most Ethical"
The greatest percentage of pilots believe the Caldari are the "most Right" in their prosecution of war.
The least "most right" percentage was the Amarr even though the Thukker's struck first.
could this be due to a general high opinion of the Caldari and a general low opinion of the Amarr? Could the fact that Thukkers invaded to "rescue" slaves have an impact of popular opinion?
"Success"
Chance of Success is firmly in the Amarr/Caldari Block.
Even with recent events which have shown a resurgence in Minmatar Efforts they are by far the least believed to have a chance of success, even below the Gallente who have lost all space up for grabs.
Could the General opinion of the Republic be an influence in the clear disregard for Minmatar potential? How much does the Minmatar's position reflect the idea that the Caldari and Amarr are allied and strong while the Gallente have already lost all ground, leaving the Minmatar alone?
"Want to Win" Other was an amalgamation of various responses but "Peace" or "Concord establishing peace" or "concord" accounted for about 15% of the "Other" catagory. This percentage is relatively equivalent to those who support Amarr, Minmatar or Caldari. There is a large minority of pro-Concord Pilots it seems.
the Gallente are by far the least popular, which was to be expected considering the previous two questions and their respective answers.
The Minmatar are the story in this answer. Least likely to win but highest supported single faction. How much of this is distain for the Amarr or sympathy for the preported "suffering" of the Minmatar? |

Given that the Caldari have the highest number of pod pilots, it seems very probable that they would make up the largest contingent in a random sample of pod pilots. As such, it is hardly surprising that a poll of a random sample of pod pilots results in a high result for the Caldari.

specific information will not be released, though many pilots did share their opinions in depth and some very interesting responces would be worth posting if the pilots who sent them wanted to share their opinions. very insightful.
The general demographic break down was:
650 pilots had mails sent to them
125 from Amarr
125 from Luminair/Rens
125 from Jita
125 from Pator/Pator-area
50 Yulai
100 from chat channels Amarr, Minmatar, Jove, Gallente, Caldari, the Summit, IGS
which demographics replied were not tracked beyond totals, only outgoing mailers were recorded.
421 pilots replied by the end of the Poll earlier today. |

I did receive an invitation, but found the first question extremely unclear.
Additionally, it is customary among Amarr to consult their peers and superiors before answering to such public inquiries, but the answer period was apparently closed before such proper consultation could occur. As such, results may be biased.
Additionally, the difference between Minmatar, Caldari and Amarr on the last question doesn't seem significant. ____

From the places polled, one lies within the Empire, one with the Caldari State, one is a joint Gallente/Republic system, one is entirely Republic and the last one while Concord-dominated, lies within Federation space. It seems the Republic is over-represented in this poll geographically speaking and as admiral Blake pointed out, with the mobility of pod-pilots, the absolute number of pod pilots will overrepresent those of Caldari descent. ____

This to be honest.
There where also several standing issues tearing the Minmatar apart which are no longer there so its likely they will do better and better. It should be said that Minmatar Militia often raid providence and have had their most effective corps, or those of their FC's, war decced by mercenaries.
The Amarr have received aid of the providence residents several times as well.
I'm curious to know if the gallente or Caldari Militias suffer from the same outside influence or embark in similar raids as the Matari do.

Regretfully putting on the tinfoil hat here, but I am not surprised the Caldari polled the highest results.
It's a simple fact there are more Caldari loyalists within the capsuleer community compared to other factions. Just look at the militia enrollment numbers.
At any rate, I commend the EVE Observer for their efforts in this rather original undertaking. Well done.

Well, the idea of the poll is good, but it actually is little significant. First, because the numbers are too small for a population of pod pilots so high (421 replies, and about 30.000 pilots on their pods at any given time). Thus, the differences in number of replies may appear big in any given moment, when in truth they are rather insignificant.
Ancient sociologists had already invented diverse techniques to prove wether different statistics were or were not significant. Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist Ordo Quaesitoris Forum |
