So I'm relatively new to the game, did the trial back in October and liked it but realized I had nowhere near the time to put into the game, but with summer ahead I decided to go for it. Anyway, I bought a couple of PLEX and had them in my ship's cargo hold. There was a contract to buy some and it said it was only 4 jumps away so I set it as my destination and put it on auto-pilot so I could make a sandwich. Unfortunately when I came back I was in my pod, still on the way to the station; I have no idea where or how my ship got destroyed so I can't just go back and pick up the items; the ship and its items are no big deal, what I'm really worried about are the two PLEX I just bought. Are they gone forever? Did I just lose ~$40 for nothing? |

Yes, they're gone, you died because you were flying around with them, other people WILL kill you for the chance to get those PLEX for themselves.
What you should have done is redeem the plex at the station you wanted to sell them at AND NEVER autopilot. Theres just about 0 chance youl get those PLEXs back, sorry. |

I assume you had made the plex into a item and had it in your cargo hold? If so then this very well might have been why you were attacked and robbed. |

Well damn. I knew this game could be cutthroat, just didn't understand by how much. Still learning the ropes, and apparently doing it the hard way; thanks for the response though. |

You were flying around in an easily destroyable ship with a possbible 2 months free gametime or 1 bil isk worth of assets. If you think about it, its quite obvious that someone would try, and succeed, at killing you. |

Yes I'm a noob and I didn't understand how everything worked in the game, I didn't realize others could so quickly and easily find out what someone else is carrying or would be so interested in doing it. I paid the price and I learned from it. Letting me know what happened and why is appreciated, coming back and rubbing my face in it while acting I should know the game in and out from a couple weeks of playing 6 months ago isn't. |

NEVER EVER undock with PLEX in your hold. There is no need to as you can redeem them in any station (also the station you want to sell it in)
This advice has been readily available on the internet already and you actually went on autopilots with almost a bil ISK in your hold which is plain stupid (actually whole AP is stupid).
Guy killed you in a ship which isn't by far worth the loot you dropped. For the ISK he got from killing you he can buy couple of more ships to do the same. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. I'm confused, when you purchase them from a contract the PLEX will be in the station. So your saying you picked them up and autopiloted to another station afterward?
Eve can be a harsh game, but I've never been ganked in hi-sec. Where you flying an ibis or other starter ship? I don't see why anyone else would attack you otherwise. Normally it's hard to gank at a hi-sec gate because Concord Police sits right there. Definitely stay out of Lowsec.
My friend got podded once cause another corp declared war on us, and after we already paid for our surrender and technically the war ends 24 hours after that which makes no sense to me. He accidentally left 30 minutes early and lost 500 million in implants and i lost 80 million isk in implants. I had bought those like 3 days before too.
Personally I would've opened up a petition explaining the situation. Your a new account and CCP wants it's people to keep playing plus you spent $40. If they're not forgiving under the circumstances I would be extremely surprised.
Remember though, the game can be harsh so you have to be careful. It's a game of patience. |

And most gankers will shoot you after they scanned you and see you have 2 PLEX in your hold (ak 900mil + ISK)

They can't do that because both PLEX dropped. Would be interesting to see how that goes in curt. Sadly $40 is a bit low to get a judges attention. When someone burns down your sandcastle, bring sausages. |

My friend, Please don't take this the wrong way but other players routinely lose hundreds of dollars worth of isk every single hour! Let me give you an example that might make you feel better.
You probably lost $40 worth of PLEX. Value in Isk is about 800 mill give or take.
Now be glad your not this guy http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=13455035
74 billion isk
Thats about $3690 tied up in one ship going poof if all of it were PLEX money.
Don't feel so bad now? Heck I'd say 10's of thousands of dollars worth of ISK in ships go poof on any given day in EVE.
Live learn and get better. If you get lost and need some advice feel free to contact me.
Good luck. |

First off anyone who spends over 3 and half thousand dollars on this game needs to seriously get a life. 2nd, from a business standpoint a new player who pays $40 and immediately loses it because of ignorance may feel disenfranchised and lose a customer.
Lets say in the first month you got the game, you bought $40 of game time and lose it. Your lose both $40 and 60 days playing time you paid for. Would you still play?
One thing I don't understand though is she said she bought PLEX through the contracts which I overlooked the first time and assumed she paid CCP. That would mean ISK, how do you pay $40 and get ISK? PLEX is valued at about 485 million isk each, that means for $40 you get 1 billion ISK. Where can I buy some of that? I believe it's against the EULA to pay a third party Dollars for ISK. It's what, usually $60 for a billion ISK?
If she did pay someone else, it's kind of a round about way of getting time. PLEX is currently going for $17.95, so 60 days would be $35.90, and you can use the website directly. Why pay a third party to do the same thing?
If that's the case that changes the whole scenario and I don't expect to see CCP doing anything about it.
The whole point of PLEX is so that CCP can allow people to spend cash to buy ISK and buy and sell game time, but they want the monopoly on it which is their right, as well control the number of PLEX's in circulation. |

Hmz, I think the total of all my assets is worth more than 3.500 USD if I would convert it to ISK and then convert it to PLEX >> USD exchange rate, yet I never used RL money to buy stuff in game, the money I pay CCP is used to sustain my accounts nothing more.
And I play casually so it isn't that hard to get massive mounts of ISK. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. LOL I see you tried to retract your comments before I saw it. Nice job on flying off the handle without understanding the situation. Nobody suggested he paid ISK to a third party.
Value is relative when attributing ISK to real money so I gave him an example so he can understand just how much people lose in this game compared to the $40's he just feels he lost. As he gains experience in the game he will lose far more than $40 worth of ISK even if he never actually pays money for the ISK. He needs to understand the relativity of value when it comes to the ISK loss vs PLEX expenditure in this game.
That being said, I did offer to lend him a hand and help him get on his feet after that loss. Maybe you should do the same eh? |

There is a handbook?[/quote]
There is none and that is the problem. I would really like to know the opinion of a judge about the fact that you can lose items you just bought without having a realistic chance to know that you might lose them minutes later without your consent. If you check the advertisement for EVE you wont find anything of that mentioned.
My guess is that CCP had high hopes that the wiki would magically make that problem go away without paying anybody for their hard work. Since I may want to loot two PLEX in the future I can't really see why I should do CCP that favour.

One thing hasn't been mentioned yet:
Why didn't you sell those PLEX on market?
PLEX contracts are often scams so I would suggest never selling/buying PLEX in contracts and allways on market. Even if you were to get to your destination, there is good chance that contract was scam and you would've lose your PLEX anyway (e.g. selling to contract which offers you 500k ISK while it claims to offer 500m ISK.)
Many regions have region wide buy orders so you can sell PLEX allmost everywhere on market. Of course it would be better to first check PLEX prices, then travel to best place to sell, and then redeeming PLEX. But if you already bought one you might be able to sell it on market where you have it.

K reasons for losing your plexes:
1) ship scanner that remotely scans your ships cargo hold (and cans and courier packages). 2) passive targeter for targeting without the target knowing hes being targeted. 3) Uedama -> direct route between Jita / Amarr trade hubs with no other high sec routes available (not under 20+ extra jumps anyway). So everyone and their mother suicide gank haulers on this route for obvious reasons. 4) Cargo well over worth of losing a single BC with auto pilot -> gank me! gank me! 5) A tornado can and does have 14K alpha with arties and depending on sec status you might get as much as two volleys on you before the concorde shows up, your destroyer never had a chance.
