I could be wrong about the history behind this, but it's not really important anyway, just backstory. As I understand it, mining missions once had you mining specific normal ore types. For assorted reasons, that got changed to "special" ore types that have no other purpose. They only exist during these mining missions, and just enough ore spawns to fulfill your objective. So, you accept the mission, warp out to the bookmark, and mine the ore. Regular belt rats can spawn, so keep an eye out and make sure your ship doesn't get blown up. If you lose even a single unit of the ore you won't be able to complete the mission. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I believe that you can get mission specific rats and belt rats simultaneously if you're unlucky. I've had some quite interesting spawns (e.g. drone cruisers and frigates in one direction and sansha frigates in another) doing mining missions in low sec.

FYI: contrary to the on-screen message, letting your mining lasers try to over-fill your cargo hold does NOT lose any of the ore in the asteroid. So don't worry about not having enough of the special ore due to filling your cargo hold.
You do sometimes end up with 1 unit of ore left-over, due to rounding errors while mining.
If you want more of the ore to leave around (without having to fail the mission to keep it): mine some of the ore (but not all), come back after down time and re-mine the whole thing ("farm" the mission).
Not that the weird ore is useful for anything but a collectible. ----- I'm a collector! Want to trade? See my Collection List and contact me. |

I just ran a level 1 polygypsum mission that was part of the Heiress series.
The problem with polygypsum is its not a normal ore and is not going to show up on the overview as such. I'm too much of a noob to know which overview settings are needed to make it show up.
In this mission, the polygypsum was the smallest of specs between two larger groups of debris and rocks. Almost too small to see, even smaller for clicking on.
Good luck.

If you open up the overview settings (right click on the little white triangle at the top left of the overview window) then just check all of the entries in the asteroids tree. If I understand correctly polygypsum falls under the arkonor check box, but I haven't confirmed this myself.

Edited by: Zartanic on 07/08/2009 20:31:07 Yes or switch each one on and off. These mission ores are useless for anything except the mission, I doubt they can even be sold on the market. The description gives a reason, like highly explosive or clogs machinery.

For that very reason the ore in question is part of the mission description where you can right click on it (the icon) and select "add to overview".
