The best thing about playing TA today is that computers are so fast, you can create mapt ten times larger than were intended for systems to run at the time; and you can change the unit limit from 200 to 2000! Add this to the community expansion that adds 250 new units to the existing 250 and it becomes something more than the original release ------------

Great game completed it my self a week ago, I lv the game but i am pretty disapointed with one thing. The multiplayer game is to limited.
Why won't they create a game that you do not have limits on troops and what you can build.
i think i can't wait for total anihalation 2 to come out, If its anything like the first and you can edit it like the first then we could see maps that can hold 20 peeps. 2000 units limits and 300+ types of units per race now that would be a great RTS game.

The first ever Relic game, Homeworld, can be set with no unit restrictions on MP. This resulted in games lagging and crashing and players playing with horde tactics. The next Relic RTSes after that took out that option and remained ever since. Personally I like it better winning with a finite amount of units. You make better resort to tactics instead of just outresourcing and outnumbering the opponent.

DOW is pretty good. I spend every other day playing multiplayer games there, and drop back here to Eve when not. From a RTS side of things, there is less building a base and an army, then going for it. Either you play gradually and spread bit-by-bit, or you just grab what you can and rush in and hope. The graphics capture Warhammer 40k, so the fans of 40k have something to get it for, but the RTS has advanced far beyond Starcraft (where's SC2?). You NEED points on the map to win, and no matter what the victory conditions (there are 8 or so), you have to keep moving to keep up. But, whatever happens, you can still turn an pre-decided defeat into a decisive victory with good tactics, and a bit of luck. It's a great game and anyone that likes Eve for its unpredictability should at least try the demo. "It's what RTS and 40K has been waiting for". Quote me on that :) I'm Aetherer. I'm here (or there) all week.

Edited by: Kyogen Steiner on 15/10/2004 09:48:54 IMO its the first Warhammer game that actually gave the board game any justice. Most warhammer based games (both fantasy and 40k) have been pure crap. I played Space Crusade back in the days and that was pretty sweet(amiga game)
the Unit cap is most likely to close down the possibillity of just sitting and building up your force while crapping up defence turrets everywhere untill you can kill everyone in a full stroke.
It makes more sence when you think about it, you build, you get more motivated to attack since you cant build more, and the mayhem that is WH40k gets reflected better. Constant war, wave after wave of it.
Relic really did a great job with this game and i agree that the campaign is short, but it leaves open for a sequal/expansion and im hoping the Imperial guard will be more playable in that. i mean, they die in droves but thats the whole point of them right?
for now chaos will do tho.
"For the dark gods!"
Edit: And damn, that music is awesome! does anyone know how you change the music during the game, or if that is even possible? ------------------------------------------------

Loved the demo and the full game is awesome, I'm glad I bought it as I seem to have forgot how much fun a game should be
Its a great game and probably the best RTS Ive seen even without knowing the story behind the warhammer universe.

Yeah and the scanner was useless since no enemy units moved until you could see them. So if you did a long range scan you all of a sudden had 30 blips moving your way. ------------------------------------------------

Oh man, I'm glad there are still other people who remember this game. It rocked.
As far as dawn of war goes, I hated some of the cutscene acting, but LOVED the game itself. I think it does the actual wargame some justice. Still not dark enough to do the old rogue trader days justice though. Damn GW and their marketing to 14 year olds.
Did anyone else happen to enjoy the chainsword animation as much as I did?
