Just recently played the demo of this game and im hooked already, although i was a bit cautious of it at first due to its complex board game origins(yes you know the ones that people with long greasy hair and big glasses play hehe), i am now glad i took the time to play this demo as it is the best RTS ive played for a long long time.
Any of you own the full game? is it any good?

Own the full game, it's awesome, love the feel. But the campaign is WAY like WAY WAY too short. But what is there, rocks hard. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I agree with Gariuys that it rocks hard. While the single player campain is disappointingly short (just 11 missions), there's nothing like watching your troops spewing flaming death and lascannon destruction while making cheerful statements like "A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy".

"Walk softly.. and carry a big gun"
I've not finished it yet, on the 7th mission, but I am enjoying it. Its very well executed, and so far it even seems to have a worthwhile plot!
And some of the voice work is excellent.

it's the ******* best RTS I've seen in a loooong time,
even beats Homeworld 2 in my books and it is currently holding #2 seat :) ______________ Only in the Tales that humans tell, do the hunters kill the wolf in the end.

beat the single player campaign this evening, game rocks immensely hard (it only arrived on like... monday, and i've played a good few skirmishes in between missions).
still trying to extract maximum use out of my beloved space marines (10 dreadnoughts are a whole world of fun though :D) ---
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if i retreat, Avenge me if i fall. |

Dark Omen rocked!
I went to reinstall it a couple of weeks ago and found that I'd scratched the CD...

Is it as good as Total Annihilation?
Ive only seen screens, and they are quite good looking. -

I have to agree with the comments above both about the mission length and also about how hard this game rocks.
I might also add that dreadnaughts and drop pods is a winning combination.

Unfortunately, although excellent, this game is not as good as Total Annihilation. Nothing ever seems to be... although Medieval Total War is very very close!
But Dawn of War is still great - the natural evolution of Starcraft / Warcraft2 / Age of Empires in my opinion. But... has anyone else noticed the massive slowdown in huge battles, or is it just me? I was getting 5fps in the ending moments of the demo ------------

Noticed a distinct slowdown, but never got too the point where I had trouble micro'ing although eldar are much harder on the micro and might have trouble with them.
Edit: and yeah total annihilation rocks, yes rocks, still play it ever now and then. Strenght in simplicity, every unit had a exact copy on the other side, so basically you only had to get good at one faction. These days it's more more diverse, which is great, but tactically you're more working to find the unbalance then finding the cool tactic. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |
