Originally by: Kuronaga It's called independence. Ships are easily replaceable once you've achieved the independence lowsec and 0.0 offer. Highsec does not "usually" offer such great rewards, but there are exceptions with really big traders and industrialists. <....>
Those who never venture outside of highsec don't seem to grasp that concept very well, typically because they let a few bad experiences stop them from ever achieving that independence.
Most of us are fairly older, mature players, so I am sure if you think about this hard enough it will make sense. <.....> Eve lets players do this by remaining in highsec, but it keeps them from achieving independence as well. As a person coasting through life, you will rarely ever achieve anything more then someone who values their independence. Those out in 0.0 have access to more toys then you do. Maybe not enough however, and maybe thats why the difference is about 90% highsec 10% 0.0 instead of 50% highsec 50% 0.0 <.....>
I'm starting to find this kind of attitude from experienced players annoying. I'm a rookie (less than 30 days play), who came to EvE looking for PvP. What I've found is a game that is amazingly hostile to rookies who want to PvP.
If you enter lowsec you will be ganked...
This is a sweeping statement that is generally untrue.
If you enter lo-sec via a well travelled path eg: Rancer or Egghelende (sp?), then sure, of course you're gonna get ganked. Most of lo-sec is very quiet, and travelling is routine. There are lots of quiet little dead ends and pockets. Dont trust the autopilot; it will often lead you right into gate camps.
And you know what... today I flew solo straight from Amarr to I-NG, by the direct, shortest route (that's about 20-25 jumps or so). The only place I saw any hostiles on my overview was in HED (the first 0.0 system). The gates leading into regions are so huge that they're hardly camped these days. There were 2 hostile ships, 45Km and 50Km away from me; they didn't even bother trying to catch me.
This is actually the most common outcome. Of course, I was in a small ship, fitted for quick warping (manticore, 2 nano II), but I could have easily done the same in a slasher with a MWD and T1 cloak. If I'd jumped in with a slow, PvE fit Raven, I'd have pobably been killed.
So much for travelling through lo-sec and 0.0.
