So I went through the stickies and resources, did a bit of googling and didn't find what I was after. Went on ahead and downloaded the invention profit calculator from the resources. Originally I was after the percentual boost per level of the invention related skills.
So I pull out the heart of the thing, and this is what I see
%Base% * (1+(0,01*%EncrSkill%)) * (1+((%Skill1% + %Skill2%) * (0,1 / (5 - %Meta%)))) * %Decryptor%
Then the picture lits up a bit and I see the beauty and the complex simplicity of invention.
1400mm railgun I
Level of Minmatar encryption methods Level of Mechanical Engineering Level of Nuclear Physics
Metalevel of the base item
These are all no-brainers.
However, having poked around I can't seem to find a source for the Base % and Decryptor factor, and I'm wondering where / how these people have found these out in order to use the formula?
A link through the program I donloaded provided me with information as to what the numbers are, but not how they were found out.
Also, I'm interested why these numbers are not linked in resources, or why there isn't a sticky for these specific details?

Good old-fashioned "trial and error" and real-life reverse engineering. A massive community data collection effort. And a bit of math.
P.S. And it's still "our best guess" so far, not a guaranteed accurate data/formula.

Read somewhere you're not supposed to use decryptors for modules. After doing a couple of Armor Rep II inventions, got one success. Used decryptors on both, albeit different ones.
Checking the invention chance plug-in, there is no change in success rate with or without decryptors for modules.
The obvious conclusion is that I wasted two decryptors, which I accept as I'm still learning. Given the ME and number of runs I got on the successful invention, I certainly wonder how anyone makes any Isk off of invention.
Is the tipping point getting Encryption and relevant Datacore skills to 5? I've got them at 4 and am scratching my head at this point. Any feedback appreciated......

Decryptors usually do change the success chances, it's just that you have to run huge numbers to really notice the difference with modules. The reason they say not to use decryptors with modules is that you generally cannot make a profit if you do so. The decryptor is worth so much money that you would have made more end profit if you had sold the decryptor and done the invention without it. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Originally by: Double Dare what the numbers are, but not how they were found out.
The decryptor stats and base chances for varying item types were in the freely given out database dumps, so as official as it gets.
The meta mod effect / formula was reverse engineered and then quite probably unofficially confirmed by a dev.
