Hulkageddon was a brilliant scheme.
It rose the price of minerals a tenthfold. higher than they've ever been in more than 1.5 years.
It looked like no one would benefit from it. That it would be just for the sake of grief.
But as we know in EvE, not everything is as it seems.
They spent a very tiny sum of isk funding hulkageddon, while prior to the event starting, they hoarded and hoarded minerals.
As soon as the event started, they sat back and watched, as the majority, i dare say, 70-80% of the supply out there, composed of small operation miners, dropped and dropped, while prices rose and rose. Soon they would reach a ever high.
Not only that, they fed you and majority of people the coolaid.
In the dark shadows the stellar winds carried the whispers of unknown faces. They whispered in the dark "hold your minerals, don't sell, they will go up and up. When the storm passes, you will sit upon wealth.
Those rumors spread,
What was once a rumor, became advice. What was once a whisper in the shadow, became your friend, your pal, telling you sound advice.
You nodded and complied, with greed blinding you to what was happening right in front of you. All it took was careful examination of graphs and numbers.
People were blinded by the shiny promise of greed and wealth. While those who knew what happened, prepared to replace them.
So the common joe didn't sell. Supply became scarce. Or so everyone thought.
but hidden behind the volume supply, were the true owners of the supply available.
supply availability didn't actually change. The people selling it, did.
The only ones selling were the ones knowing prices would drop, not even before hulkageddon ended. Who were these people?
The same ones who long before were hidden in the darkness, whispering to the ears of the naive.
so in short: Goons hoarded a load of minerals; started hulkageddon, spent 10 bucks funding it, and then made that a thousand times, selling and controlling the bulk supply. All they had to do is just sit back and squeeze and let the market breath a little to let it's cry reach ever high prices.
As soon as the amount of hulks being killed dropped as everyone got bored, more and more hulks left the dark in their caves. Supply flooded, inferno released. And prices dropped.
and keep dropping faster than it takes you to read this post.
Goons owned everybody. Everywhere.

You do realize that the drone poo nerf probably had an effect on mineral prices too right? Probably more than hulkageddon had by about a factor of 1000.

In-game Price History shows a steady increase in the cost of Tritanium in Jita (about as bell weather a price as their can be) starting around December 2011. Hulk V started at the beginning of May 2012. At the beginning of May, both price and sales volume fell. Since then, the price has inched up and is about on par with what we saw at the beginning of May.
Color me not impressed.

Sorry... but no.
Anyone that has serious capital / large amounts of minerals, knows that hulkagedon is nothing but a blip on the radar. Really, everything is about the nerf to drone poo, and gun mining.
Plus... why would hulkagedon affect zydrine, megacyte, nocxium, etc. Last I checked, these weren't mined in high-sec. (small amounts of nocxium aside).
My own guess is we saw the following happen:
1. Announcement of mineral changes, people expect prices to rise, they start stock piling minerals. 2. Due to the fact people were stock piling minerals, this made less minerals available. Prices went up higher. 3. People start mining again, especially in 0.0. Demand for orcas/rorquals went up. However minerals do not come available instantly. 4. Changes went live. No more drone poo, gun mining nerfed. 5. In all of this, ship prices went up a lot. No proof to this, but my guess would be that people stopped buying as many ships, and start using up more of their ship stockpiles. (and not rebuilding stockpiles at the same time. 6. Some people decided it was time to cash out. In cashing out, prices start dropping. 7. As people cash out, others that stockpiled panic and cash out. 8. New equilibrium has happened, as the stockpiles have been reduced.
My prediction?
Mineral prices will after a time, start to rise again - albeit slowly. As all of the stockpiles are emptied out, with no more drone goo, we are probably burning through more minerals then we produce. People will start building more ship stockpiles up - building more capitals, super capitals, etc.
In all of this, though, hulkagedon is nothing but a blip on the radar.

Drone Poo nerf caused the Mineral basket to rise, not Hulkageddon.
Hulkageddon's financiers (GSF) are making money from it in the form of increased demand for Tech, given that 70-80% of a Hulk by price is Tech.
GSF made no secret of the fact that that's the reason they are financing HAG. Just like they told literally everyone their plan for the Ice interdictions and Burn Jita (and people still thought GSF was mining Ice for topes in Null).
Minerals aren't relevant to HAG. Single-Shard, Player Driven-áSandbox.
5 words. That's what makes it special. |

GOONS did that? Damn. I thought it was all just a combination of speculative hoarding, supply changes, disruption of mining, and a jump in demand.
I expected there to be a nice, linear rise in mineral prices due to the drone region and loot table changes. Instead, it rose, then stayed, then dipped a bit, then rose some more. That, I figured, was caused by speculators releasing their stashes of hoarded minerals at high prices, causing a drop in price. |

I'm sorry but I disagree with yuor assertion that hulkageddon had much to do with price increases in minerals. the fact is the prices were already up and on the rise befroe hulkageddon was close. if anything prices have been stable at close to what they were before and during hulkageddon. I expect they will move more after the event is over. |

Really? Merchant "greed"? You mean people wanting to make a profit? Market forces and competition control greed.. There isn't much margin for greedy actions in eve... unless you are talking about corporate theft or scams.
Problems in the real world with "greed" has more to do with the fact that there isn't enough competition in many markets. and the government is highly responsible for this trend. |

Jeez....not everything that happen is caused by Goonswarm (though they like to take credit for practically everything). Enough with this Goon-spiracy. Like what all the others had posted, the major reason for the mineral price spike is because of
1. Nerfing of the gun-mining aka "drone poo" 2. Speculation by trader.
Hulkageddon? Barely felt the effect. I for one is glad for the raise in price for all mineral and items. It create chaos and panic. and this means more opportunity for me to profit. |

I personally had no connection with goon and based my prodictions on the drone and t1 mod changes. Looks like some other traders did the same.
@ OP: You have no proof that goons did anything and yet ask for proof they didn't? Time to change your meds. |

everyday i mine, i refine what i mined that day and put it up at the local trade hub's buyers price. it always sold by the time i log back in to mine some more. hulkageddon didnt change that, drone poo didn't change that, market speculation didn't change that. isn't this is how the average joe mines?

I think the term 'Merchant Greed' here applies to all the 'extra' traders who appeared out of the woodwork recently to speculate on minerals. I know a few, and i know some of them actually lost money. My homeboys tried to warn me But that butt you got makes me so horny |
