I'm currently flying Minmatar and am very happy with then, except for the battleships. It's recently come to my attention that their battleships suck for pvp compared to other race's so I've decided to crosstrain. I was already planning to anyway just up to battlecruisers, so it's not that big a leap.
What I want to know is whether Gallente or Amarr battleships are more suited to solo/small gang work. I would also prefer if you would back up your statement with why you think so, that way there's not a full page of "Gallente BS's are best!".
Thanks all.

for solo/small gang work I'd personally go for Gallente.
Amarr are awesome fleet ships, but for solo/gang, they are good, but not stellar.
Gallente battleships can fit buffers almost as good as amarr, which can be used for small gangs but they can also fit very useful active tanks which work VERY well in small gangs/solo. Also the blasters issue isn't so crippling in small gangs. Most of the combat I come across is up close and a gallente battleship would be heaven to have on your side, as it dumps 1000+ dps on the target.
Alot of small gang warfare is somebody getting a point on somebody else and both sides warping their little gang in. This results with alot of ships up close and personal enough to get tackled. tackled ships turn into wrecks quickly with a blaster battleship around.
tl;dr
gallente battleships because it's easy to utilize their ok buffer, ok local tank, and awesome up close blaster damage in small gangs. Especially with tacklers or other friends to warp to when they get points

Amarr will fill the holes that minmatar desperately lack.
I too trained minnie from the start, and displeased then fully crosstrained amarr. Excellent compliment. Amarr will suit your larger gang, RR gang, fleet, and pve needs. Minmatar will be just fine* for solo/small gang.
*Except the ones that use large autocannons

welcome to my thorax which will orbit you and slowly pick away at your buffer while you flouder around and die. I hear bs guns can't track a cruiser at 500m

frigates work surprisingly well at this, too, I hear. and i'd probably actually use a vexor before i'd use a thorax for that :/

Originally by: AstroPhobic You said battleships and then solo. Why? Battleships... don't solo. I mean you shouldn't choose another race based upon their battleships' soloing ability.
I was going to train another race to battlecruisers anyway just to have more options depending on what my friends need, so I wanted one with good battleships for my kind of fighting.

I hear that Amarr ships are all the rage with the girls because most of them look like a c.o.c.k dipped in gold. Is that true? I mean the <girls play MMOs> part?
Anyway, lasers sucked for years and nowadays they are pimp. And drones are ghey. So it`s a no contest, Amarr wins easy. ___________

Tbh, Amarr gets it all when talking battleships.
Armageddon: You get a cheap, high dps ship with pretty good buffertank. Makes an excellent small/mid/large fleet ship, and with its utility highslot, can fit either neut or a remote repper.
Apoc: The best sniper BS in EVE currently. It does not have the same range as the Rokh, but overall, it does the job much better.
Abaddon: Excellent small/mid fleet ship. Massive buffer with bonus to armor resistance. While not doing the same amount of dps as the geddon, it will certainly outlast it. Also, the ability to switch instantly from multifrequency (15km) to scorch (45km) is just pure win.

For solo, small gang work, I would go for Gallente. Domi is probably the best solo BS out there.
Also, Gallente are not going to get nerfed in their present form. They have a bit of a problem with their blasters, but other then that they are pretty effective. So you can train Gallente and maybe get a buff, or train Amarr and maybe get a nerf.

Edited by: Echo Gemini on 10/08/2009 11:19:59 Gallente ... then you will able to use faction ships!..
But stick to minnie, some ships are best of their kind (frigs and assault ships, cruiser and battlecruiser, heavy dictor and logistic, even command ships). Right after them are gallente (imo) with bs, capital and industrial / transport ships!
Minnie is a tough gum to chew ... but you should try better before cross-training (typhoon, as bs, is extremely nice).
Why would you want to train weapons / ships from ammar or gallente, when you can be good at one single race? The problems minnie has will be solved eventually, but the advantages will remain (slot-layout, damage type, cap-less weapons, speed). When people start to cry about ammar and gallente what are you gonna do?
