-item repair in right click menu options-
Isn't it both possible. and perhaps, obvious to consider adding a menu option to the right click on a ship or module in the ships or items hangar to repair an item directly as soon as it is detected by the server as being damaged ?
Since the server is already tagging the item damaged, the hook is in place and in use...it would seem simple to ((if not globally)in fact definitely not as that would simply undo the idea back to all items tagged as repairable) add rather a local menu option to damaged items' menu choices to repair the single item directly.
why, in the repair window are all items, EVEN THOSE NOT REQUIRING REPAIR listed and so needing to be sorted through?
and then, in fact are scramble-sorted into all kinds of random listings(why not default groupings just as when the hangars or holds are opened?)
again the server ALREADY KNOWS WHATS DAMAGED so why in the world are ALL items not needing repair listed at all as repairable?
Just that alone would seem capable of significantly reducing overall drag lag on the server side
The idea of a game is game play not searching/sorting icons
the idea of a repair option is to fix damaged items
the server has a standing list FROM THE TIME OF DAMAGE what needs repair
why make players sort through all of their items one by one or have to have them in a ship for example or have to attempt repackaging to find the one or two that need fixing?
that time could be spent playing, and with a time critical test in mission game code demanding completion of missions by time-date why in the world make a person running a mission and/or perhaps in a system where all of their items are stored, pick and choose through working items looking for the one that's not ready for use? (or even out of mission for disposition /transport)?
it would seem better to add this to the "damaged/must be repaired before" hook to smooth things out
now yes, i know and agree that it's better housekeeping to repair at time of docking
and everyone should backup daily and read help files too...
but still, we are humans not bots and in the play process or when we have to log just before boot -finishing the last enemy and docking just in time to complete the mission- it is a very, very common and simple oversight to login after boot, take the next mission, swap out drones or modules for that next mission, and inadvertently leave damaged items unrepaired, only to find out sooner or later ONE OF THEM IS MUCKED and NO INDICATION OF WHICH....
the menu option would simplify it making it much easier it would seem to me (in fact why not icon swapping or a field tag in the repair list if it is easier...even so, why not then again flag/tag the items in the hangar as in need of preparation for use and so directly repairable individually)
i am sure it would be an immensely well received option by any and everyone playing
reasoning why something like this could or should not be implemented would be greatly appreciated

Agreed, identifying damaged items quickly would be a great aid to hangar managment.
Currently I have to globally select all and repair just to locate one damaged item and repair it.
How about an overlay on the item to show that there's something wrong with it? Or a 'sort by damaged' that shoves all damaged items to the top of the sort list (ahead of containers/blueprints) so that they can be repaired.
Also, a remote repair function via the assets window! There's nothing more annoying than trying to contract away a ship half way across the map only to be blocked because it's 1% damaged. As for damaged ammo (crystals) - Let us contract them and have them show as damaged% just as you get the details on a blueprint now (since you can't stack crystals people should know immediately that a dozen un-stacked crystals are used/damaged). So when the escrow is viewed a list of items shows up and each 'consumable' is displayed as 'used'.

Edited by: Subtle Escort on 13/08/2009 17:56:00 ok another hook seems indicative of the remote option....anyone else ever see item in the hands of technicians or some such? now we know there be non podders in them stations and they aint earning isk mining or missioning, and (as an aside, folks you cant fit 1000m3 volume into anything less than ten meters meters on the long axis ie a pod...look 1000m3 is just plain simple 10 meters by 10 meters by ten meters for us and you non metric people thats 30 us feet...sorry folks thats a three story building got it? and thats if its a cube...we are talking a prolate here so your long axis is obviously bigger than a 3 story building....and why is that so unrealistic...doesn't anyone else add it up that apparently no ship has any more of an in system warp drive than the pod itself?) anyways the point is, theres personnel and technicians whom are often in the process of fitting me or something or another somewhere or somehow so them same folks be there 24/7 to COMMUNICATE WITH, so if you can TRADE or Handle LABORATORY OPERATIONS remotely then do not try to con me or any of the rest of us that you cant order local techs to swap out your damaged items into the repair lines and have your things properly prepared when you dock...is that not what the strip and save implies directly...why is it i cant dock, hit browse fit setup 2 which just happens to be setup 1 exactly the same, but nothing damaged un-dock keep fighting and tell them whats making their rent and food bills cause i am working in their system to fix my stuff and have it ready for another swap out...yeah figurative...point is there is NO REASON for no remote repair option, and exactly so there is Absolutely No Reason for not being able to view repair status at a distance and there CERTAINLY SHOULD NOT BE any reason why a pod pilot locked into the intra system neo-com which knows all sees all hears all to be in his own station and not know whether the crap is crap or usable duh huh me
