Edited by: Sakari Orisi on 10/08/2009 21:08:49 [Cross-posted from the technology Lab forum] Python fitting assistant is a fitting tool I've been working on for a few weeks now. It started about a month back as an attempt at getting a decently working fitting tool on Linux (EFT is rather unstable with wine/mono on my box). 26 days later I finally got a fully working prototype and I need the community to test it, report bugs, request features, etc.
Highlights:
- Sleek interface written in GTK
- Fully cross-platform
- Novel Replacement for EFT
- Freely and easely extendable thanks to python
- Full ship and module support [Except for gang support related modules]
- Full Skill support
Enough babbling now, time for some screenshots: Main view

EFT does not use Mono or even anything like that. EFT is native x86 compiled from Delphi.

ok download and installed. Wow what an improvement over the "other" one. Amazing icons with transparent backgrounds too. Looks great!

GJ! I'll take a look at it. Not that I need it, since EFT works perfectly here (a few minor icon glitches but who cares :P).
However if you keep working on it I'll definitely switch to using it once it matures a bit (unless it's not as buggy as your post makes it sound, then i'll use it right away).

Very nice work, kudos Sakari!
One display bug I found: if I set my own Information Warfare level (V) in the gang bonuses, the whole fit disappears. And the targeting time is not updated appropriately.
It doesn't disappear if I set any other Warfare skill (Armored, Siege, Skirmish, Mining Foreman). In these cases, the proprer bonus is calculated and applied to the displayed values.
And besides, it'd be nice for PYFA to have an option to auto-set the Leadership bonuses based on the actual char skillset.
Still a masterful piece of software. --- Kat :: Recruitment :: Hikage Corporation |

The bug has been fixed in the latest release :) I'll also try to work on that auto-setter sometime soon
On another note: I'd like to announce the release of pyfa 0.3.1, this is mostly a bug release and fixes the following issues:
- Fix a bug where attributes without category were being ignored. This has the anoying side effect that several attributes regarding the new implants and T3 subsystems were being ignored
- Fix a bug where tech II missiles wouldn't get bonusses correctly
- Fix a bug that prevented shield resistance amplifiers from working

I'm getting different readings with the same ship setup and same imported char from EFT 2.10.4 and pyfa (latest git). Different firepower, different cap rate... I think pyfa is skipping bonuses from various skills. Also, pyfa doesn't seem to connect to Eve Central (no prices) and no DPS graphs.
Gui is lacking in ship fitting area... No right click to switch ammo, no ctrl/shift click to select multiple items.. Hmm where is the heat column? Min window width is forced and wont fit a 1152x864 screen...
So, you cannot claim it doesn't lack features compared to EFT. Btw, EFT works with wine, and transparent icons work if you enable Force high-color icons in preferences. EFT running in wine will even pick fittings copied to "clipboard".
Nice start though. Will be a nice addition to gtkevemon. -- Ubuntu Eve Online install Guide Athlon X2 6000 Nvidia 9800 GT Ubuntu x86_64 |

I'm sorry, but this app is one month old, you can't expect some skills/modules aren't bugged, figuring out what ones and reporting to me helps a great deal though. Also, EFT running in wine has all sort of anoying bugs for me, such as some weird window behaviour when switching virtual desktops (it randomly follows the active desktop around) and refusing to maximize when recently having switched desktops.

Impressive Sakari. I agree, as wonderful as EveFit is, for Linux via wine it has some seriously annoying bugs. Personally right click issues. All wine related and unlikely to be resolved as such. This lil Python app has great potential. Keep the fixes coming. I will see if I can hack some myself. Needed a project to get my into Python, this may be it :)

edit: Just curious: Why gtk and not wxPython?
I already knew gtk, so it was easyer for me to learn pygtk, feel free to jump on IRC if you got any questions about the source btw (or ask them here :p)

Currently checking whether I can get Empathy to work with IRC (to the peanut gallery: I know I could use other clients - but testing KarmikKoala features anyway). --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Laptop, NVidia7900GS, Ubuntu 8.04, WINE |
