Just had a random pirate kill me and pod me outside Amarr (1.0). Saw on grief watch this same pilot did the same thing to someone in Rens (1.0) last month.
So, how can someone repeatedly gank & pod someone in hisec, w/o getting a security hit that keeps them out?
Or, what are the mechanics for losing or gaining standing in hisec?
Thanks for any help.

I would like some tech info on the game mechanic:
How MUCH standing do you lose for attacking a player in hisec? For podding a player in hisec?
What do you do to get standing back, so you can do it again?
(If there are any other threads or guides, that would be great, also.)

Uusally attacking anoter player won't nail you by more than 1-2% max of your standing, killing ths ship results a little more loss, podding results in a 12.5% or more loss in standing. It is really in how eve calculates standings that makes it quick to lose standings but hard to get them back.
Gaining standings is usually only .05% or .5% in most cases for npc Battleships, this inlcudes the fact that you only get the increase for one npc ship every 15 minutes in the same system.
Most pirates get theirs up quickly by ratting in 0.0 by popping a rat BS then jumping systems and doing the same. But highsec level 4s have a similar effect if you run them often enough.
So essentially it is very possible to keep going down and up as long as you don't go below a certain number which locks you out of highsec until you get your standings back up. In most cases that is -4.50. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always acertain the vintage of the first two. |

Killed you and podded you, eh? That's tough to do because if you kill somebody, the cops (CONCORD) come and blow you up right quickly. My guess is that some joker undocked in a smartbombing battleship right on the station, and that you being a noob were blown up in the first volley and podded by the second.
He gets a moderate status hit for killing your ship, and a big status hit for podding you. Since he probably got some other people, too, he's going to be relegated to outlaw life for a while. (Perhaps he was an outlaw already, though?)
He will get his sec status up gradually by ratting or running missions in lowsec or 0.0. It will take a long time, but if that's the way he earns his ISK anyway, then it won't be a problem for him.

@Joe, what is the way to not get blown up in that situation? Well, getting a gullible friend to leave station first works but eventually attrition will leave you out of gullible friends.

A well tanked BS, BC or HAC will probably be able to survive long enough for Concord to finish him off and/or for you to get out of range.

In a 1.0 system where you're really not expecting trouble there's not a lot you can do, or really should do unless you're really paranoid. It won't happen very often.
In general though you can have someone undock and move quickly out of the area. The Smartbombs usually have a max range of 6km (a few of the really expesive ones are 7km). So when you undock and see someone smartbombing, quickly change direction and move away from him.
You could also use a scout if you suspect this might happen - the scout manouvres around and gets out to about 50km off station, where they can safely watch. A smartbombing BS will take a little time to reach out to 50km and the scout can easily outmanouver him. But as I said, you wouldn't normally expect to need a scout or fancy manouvres in a 1.0 system, so you just got unlucky. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Given CONCORDs response in 1.0 is to all intents and purposes instantaneous you'd have to smartbomb someone to have any hope of popping their ship AND pod.

heck even 0.5 is harder, your lucky if you get 4-5 shots off before your jammed and going down. You really need an overly weak target to kill them before Concord comes like a shuttle or badly tanked industrial; or a frig for that matter to. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. You can't smartbomb within 5000m of a station, so I doubt this is how he did it. That's 5000m away from dock range, not just letting yourself move 5km after undocking. So he's going to have to be quite far away from the undock to smartbomb. |
