To explain it a bit clearer for you Phenix Prose the Jove are an advanced race, which are genetically engineered and mutated through the years via advanced genetics. Their technology is beyond our comprehension and currently are not accessible until further expansions of EVE (Not Shiva). They do look sick which also would have something to do the Jovian Disease. Genetic in nature, it is not infectious to other races, but among Jovians it causes a depression so deep and serious that the victim loses the will to live, and death results within a few days or weeks.

Ok, one thing about the Jovians and their Genetic Engineering puzzles me. Such an advanced scientific race would obviously have kept detailed journals and publications or records concerning EXACTLY what genetic research was done, which mapped genes were modified, and what genetic changes were made right before the Wasting Disease appeared. Such an advanced genetically-oriented race would also surely have kept a Genetic Library, effectivley storing all copies and mutants of every gene in their genome. I cannot give an exact answer on this Balthial Ashaere but I can give my opinion, which is as follows. The extent of genetic engineering done was of such that destroyed the original cells and thus the effects are irreversible. The type of manipulation could have been at the Somatic cell manipulation level, which are all the cells of the body that do not pass DNA on to the next generation and thus is not traceable back through time and logs.
Genetic manipulation is the moving around of other genes not creation of new genes. As advanced, as the Jovians may be the creation of new genetic information on such a level may not be manageable by the Jovian. The Germline manipulation technique that may be used when creating a new Jovian clone uses genetic information from the previous Jovian this degenerates the genetic code found in the new clone ergo imperfections originate and the genetic code is damaged there after.
How could the Jovians then fix these impurities? They cannot create new genetic codes to fix them they can only steal or copy the genetics form another DNA sample, which is already infected with impurity.
This is of course my personal opinion and not one that should be taken as official.

You work on the assumption that there is a clear æBeforeÆ and æAfterÆ record of the disease. If it was indeed this simple as you have said the Jovians would have corrected this issue but we must now assume that this is not the issue and that there is some adverse effect that they cannot track down easily. Yes genetics on this level are very advanced and complicated which would lead us to believe that the exact time that the genetics were manipulated where not recorded or are eluding the Jovians.
Something simple and obviouse is not the answer, also I would not be so sure that every single experiment was recorded I envision black market style tests and experiments no sanctioned by the Jovian council.

Once again you are working on the assumption that they noticed the disease straight awayà the Jovians are not a race that believes in making mistakes, as far as they are concerned I am sure they think they are perfect.
The Jovian disease as far as I can see lies dormant until such time as it decides to come out this would mean that recorded cases of the disease in the first instances would be scare and even just rumours. General time frame you say? Yes I am sure they do but I would put this down to a 100+ year gap until any real wide scale problem was discovered.
Looking for answersà well yes they probably do know where to look but that does not mean the information is apparent. The Jovians may be advanced but they are not god like, they do not hold the key to life its self if they did they wouldnÆt use cloning as a mean to reproduce.
As far as youÆre explanation of possible cover-ups and espionage, well these are perfect explanations and very valid in my opinion. The fact is we donÆt honestly know.
The information presented by CCP is not full, so you cannot say it is wrong or right. It is what it is and that is partial information to an in depth aspect of a race that eludes our comprehension for now.

Heh very true but what is one to do if not to use his intellectual muscle every now and then? But yes you are correct in the Chronicle "Heaven" it states "The Third Empire was founded half a millennium ago amidst the devastation of the Jovian Disease, which threatened to disintegrate Jovian society" which would suggest the diseases showed up after the second fall.
