It's another re-imagining of the series not related to the awesome show that just ended nor the original (also awesome in a very different way).
This could either be amazing or epic fail. I guess we'll have to wait a few years to find out.

I call fail.
You can only 'reimagine'/'reboot' a series so many times before people get whiny. ♥

this has been in the planning wwwwaaayyyy before the re-imaging of BSG - it was greenlit but after the September 11 attacks the story of a sneak strike that wipes out a large portion of humanity wasn't exactly an easy sell, and the project died. At least, until Ronald D. Moore picked up the ball in 2003 and ran with it,

Yeah but since then it's been done, and done very well with critical and fan acclaim - so why beat a dead horse that is probably just going to annoy fans of the new series? __________________

Hmm...not sure what to make of that. With Bryan Singer at the helm I would have quite high hopes, but at the same time, with the recent TV series it's a bit of an odd choice to try and make. The 'lore' HAS been reimagined and reimagined very well indeed. If they used the cast from the TV show perhaps it would gain a little more credibility, otherwise I think it's doomed to be a Hollywood joke.
I guess it's like a bunch of amateurs making a new Star Wars movie using a camcorder, in their back gardens using costumes their mums made at the same time as the real thing is showing. Even if the amateurs are directed by Bryan Singer. I'll wait for the torrent I think -------------

Whilst I immensely enjoyed the new BSG series it wasn't because it was BSG it was for the story. TBH they could have picked buck rogers as a remake and did the same thing with the existential what is life story to probably the same success. So here is looking forward to a BSG movie that is BSG and not the philosophical ramblings about the human condition with some vipers and cylons tacked on to justify the name.

Too early since BSG finished as a tv show.
Probably will be fail, but one can hope.

proabably get shot down in flames for this - but I honestly didn't think BSG (reimage) was all that - sure it had great SFX but it was for a a typical demographical auidence - by pretending to be gritty and new by featuring sex every episode. Plus the one thing I really don't like in a tv show is being told what to think, and BSG did that far to often, the relgious aspects of the show bored me senseless, and sadly that was most of it, the last season (apart from the last couple of episodes) were testatment to that. So for me I shall be looking forward to the movie - hopefully it won't be full of people telling me what to believe.

Yeah, some people at this point would say that they missed the boat with the film because someone else came along and 're-imagined' it already, did it well, and had 5 series (well, 4 and a bit) to develop a depth of character and story that they couldn't hope to match in a, let's say, 2 and a half hour film.
Other people might say that science fiction is at its best when it's addressing serious and current concerns (like a real life sneak attack, , the use of pre-emptive force, the impact of fear on society, and the consequences of denying the aknowledgement of equal status to an outside group). And assuming the film won't retread the same ground as the series because, let's face it, Hollywood as a rule does not like to take risks there's a real likelihood this could be a bit like the latest Star Trek outing - all bright and shiny and ooh and ahh and grr and woah, and little or no actual substance beyond the eye candy that would make it memorable or particularly notable.
Also, to add to the Hollywood bashing, the one thing that the new BSG tv series made an absolute correct choice on was ditching the annoying kid, Boxey, and his equally annoying 'dagget' as quickly as possible. Whether Hollywood will show the same wisdom remains to be seen.

I watched the BSG tv series. It was bad. Very bad. Unbelievably bad. I hold no hope for any further BSG ventures.
Admittedly, BSG was made all the worse, becuase I had just watched all of The Wire back to back and thus the shockingly bad acting, sets, scripting and overly used and often rubbish cgi were somewhat more obvious in my mind.
But even without the The Wire to make it look worse than it is..... just... no....
And if I just urinated on your favourite land of make believe, you're 12 and you don't matter.
