It's the same as ships.
Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
That is my mantra....I have been podded a bunch of times in low-sec, and it was due to me just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, lost a manticore the other day when a pirate was cloaked and was lurking on me while taking down a ship...oh well...part of the game.

People are saying they pod people or that they get podded in low sec, well if u get podded u need to learn how not to, and if u pod someone, it's coz theyre a noob (apart from the very odd occasions of desync or if they were afk / didnt care etc).
You can either have planets or belts on ur overview, or u can have a tab with celestials on it. Both have disadvantages, since swapping tabs can cause lag and u often don't want celestials clogging ur overview.
The best way to do it is to simply have brackets for celestials on, and when you know ur going to die, click on one. Then from just before you die, start spamming the warp to button and there is no way u can get caught. Whereas they will have a bit of lag on their overveiw when ur ships blows making it hard to instantly target ur pod, spamming the warp to button means even if you get lag when ur ships blows, it won't affect your pod warping. Since doing this, I have never and i mean never, lost a pod when not in a bubble.

You should never, ever lose a pod unless in a bubble or de-synched. Just have gates on your overview, go to selected object, spam warp button a hundred times before you die.
Just don't wait too long. If you wait until you're in hull, you may actually already be dead before you start spamming. Start doing it when 'you are boned' starts flashing in your mind/overview.
However, don't do it too early in 1v1s. There are times when the fight goes to the wire, and aligning out to a gate too early can lower your transversal and might get you popped when you could have won the fight (i.e., you are the faster ship in a point-blank slugfest)

I once lost my pod that way - instead of warping to something I tried to get another cycle of overheating from my nearly burnt out guns; but the other guy got a wrecking shot with one of the guns and I went down instead of him with him having a few HP of structure. Immensely fun fight however.

Despite what people claim, pods DO die all the time. You can look at any killboard and see this for yourself. This is true in high sec, but far more so in 0.0.
Use cheap implants or nothing at all on a clone for pvp. Or just take the risk. But sooner or later, you WILL lose it, like anything else (can-flipping high sec "pirates" aside).

Simple...only put in 2 implants on your combat clone (perp/will) and train skills that use those attributes when in it. Drop to +2/3 depending on your chances of getting podded or ability to replace.
