Double post but frack it.
From GameSultra's article on todays even
Quote:
In fact, when Dust 514 launches, the map of EVE, currently divined only by player structures owned in the PC game, will also take into account infantry successes and failures within the console game. Players in the PC MMO can "fund mercenaries and give them goals" in the console title.
Interesting?
I still see this as effecting the npc regions of eve like low sec. Hopefully what that means is "in addition to the map being changed by player actions in 0.0 it will also show changes in npc regions for the console players actions."

Originally by: Nareg Maxence Console gamers are an untapped resource. It's really big in asia, where EVE is not so big. My guess is that EVE will continue to be western hemisphere dominated and a lot of eastern hemisphere players will be drawn to the console game. The synergy could boost both games to new heights.
I agree. But only if there is a pc version too.

Possibly the real reason for cosmos 2.0? And being able to add console players to your alliance would make perfect sense to keep them loyal and fighting for you instead of only being able to effectively bribe them to fight for you with merc contracts. However there is nothing stopping an alliance from having a select few of its own members also play the console game and then they can be the core of the console side to make sure the mindless hords fight for the right side. Lots of possibilities with that.

I don't think sony is making any more game consoles and the 360 is good for years to come plus the next version of the 360 will be a hardware upgrade so by all accounts it should be easily ported. So it would make sense to also have a pc client to guarentee you can keep your console character data and still use it if you lose your console.

(Yes, I ran the numbersą )
only that a sniper apoc cant even enter low-earth orbit, because of tritanium
250km is well above the atmosphere. I'd love to see some sort of mechanic that lets you do orbital strikes with eve ships in the console game even it it is only npc ships that do the bombarding.

Originally by: zombiedeadhead The issue that perplexes me, is one that arises from the USP of EVE, the single server. A console FPS is going to be so far away from this, that I can't see how they will integrate satisfactorily. I would imagine that at most, each map for the online console players would have a maximum of 64 players, so would that be say, one base on a planet, or one planet, or what. So Dust would be a large number of servers, with a small number of players on each.
Then, if a group of players 'conquer' a planet, how do they move to another, if they are transported by EVE players, then they are going to get ganked mid-space without any interaction on their part. They would just respawn and think WTF. Maybe there is some independant transport system, which will not appear in the EVE universe, in which case, the integration fails.
I am open to any new ideas in the game, although I've always been a bit 'meh' about WIS, but I cant get my head around this announcement. Want more info please !
Don't think in terms of cod4, think in terms of planetside. CCP has the technology for a massive battlefield filled with hundreds of players after all.

I believe there is a saying: 'Something for everyone'
Seems to me if ccp are smart they will give a discount for having an eve account and dust account so alliance players can have more say in what happens on the dust side of the sov equation. Put in a few core members into the fps game and recruit from there. Now you have an army loyal to your eve corp who will now go and pester that damn annoying alliance the next region over.

Guess what. They are not mixing. The best you can hope atm from the current info is to chat with a dust commander who is accepting your contract to assault/defend one of your planets. Then the outcome will be a small factor in the new sov equation. Other than that there is zero interaction between eve and dust.

So at the Fanfest they'll have all-PC audience of hardcore EVE gamers, and CCP will present their console exclusive Dust game that influences 0.0 sov.
"Hey guys check out this new game we are making! sorry but you can't play it, this is for completely different player audience. Oh and just to make things interesting, we let those new players determine the fate of your 0.0 alliances. Isn't that exciting?"
You made me lol, it's funny because it is so true.
Kekeke, everytime you make one of these poasts Ghoest a ccp dev gets to pop open a bree and chuckle as he adds another tick mark to the 'U Got CCP Trolled, Forumite' column of thier Dust info speculation chart..

I think Dust is a good thing. Frankly, it fills a gap that the core EvE game has; easily accessible quick action. And it does it in a way that means you can have your twitch-fix and still contribute to your "main" EvE goals. Are you really so very fond of POS shoots that you wouldn't prefer virtually anything else than the current way? I am certainly not.
I'm just hoping very much that CCP have the sense to incorporate it into the EvE client somehow, even if MSOFT won't let them do it straight away... I would very gladly pay extra on my main sub for Dust access.
CCP have always had the goal of making EvE a full Science Fiction sim, not just a spaceships game, and now they're getting their arses in gear. One thing that Dust does is make the EvE map much larger: now every system has 1-16 new "locations" where stuff can actually happen. I've always wanted to see what those planets looked like, and maybe soon I'll get the chance.
I think CCP's long term goal is to have some kind of EvE-verse game available to just about every kind of platform and player, and I think they have the balls and the imagination to pull it off. I can see this being only the first of a succession of projects in the EvE-verse; they can expand on Dust with the long-awaited atmospheric flight, and maybe with mecha as well (double awesome!). There is a LOT they could do with exploration/archeology/hacking as well; they could be a hell of a lot more fun than just sitting in space watching a module timer run down over and over and over until your 5% chance finally comes in; maybe we'll actually get to do the exploration and hacking. EvE's market and industry could be accessible to a browser game. Planetary environments could be created by an MMO Sim game, in turn feeding back in to Dust
As far as your elite veteran player's sense of entitlement... yeah well too damb bad mate. You're gonna get jolted out of your cosy comfy asset and SP advantage buffer and have to compete on level terms. Are you going to man up and adapt, or cry about the good ol' days when people respected you dambit, and '09s knew their place, and there was honey still for tea?
Sack up, Nancy. This is likely only the start.
Well said!

Now that makes sense. I'd guess he is required by contract with the console corps to keep quiet about a pc version, lest people may be inclined to skip the console and wait for the pc version, reducing revenue for the console.
/this
Like I have said in other threads ccp already has a guaranteed pc playerbase already set up and wanting to buy into this so there is no need to publicly hype it atm. The console crowd is another demographic altogether so it will need ccps entire marketing focus to pull it off. Also why in blazes would ccp wait till fanfest to give anymoar info out if it was not coming out on pc too? If it was console only they would only have a small presentation to tell eve players about the role it will have in sov whilst the main dust 514 website gives out the games exact details. Not exactly something eve players at the fest would be clapping Hilmar on the back about about for holding back info on till then.
