Anyone that needs these rules is going to fail anyway.. Anyone that doesn't need these rules already knows a better way.

Your guide is rubbish for the following reasons:
Originally by: Grumples McGee
For traveling between systems, I recommend: * Prototype Cloaking Device (Electronics V, Cloaking 1, any ship can use) * Microwarp Drive * Afterburner * Warp Core Stabilizer x2 (or more)
WCS are pointless against a camp that has a HIC (virtually all of them). If you could fit 200 of them the HIC would still be able to point you.
Originally by: Grumples McGee When you jump into a system and find yourself in a gatecamp, do this: 1) Pick something fairly in front of you. 2) Align to it. 3) IMMEDIATELY click on your prototype cloaking device (this is to buy time while your ship aligns). 4) Once aligned, click off cloak (if they haven't popped it already) and warp.
The time to align after jumping through a gate is a fixed amount of time depending on your inertia. Aligning to something in line does not speed this up at all. Better to fit mods to boost align speed.
Also as someone else already said you should MWD first then align and cloak. This allows you to get further away from to place the enemy last saw you, and therefore makes it more difficult for you to be uncloaked, plus it may help you warp quicker when you drop the cloak again.
And no one comes to C&P looking for a guide to avoid pirates. They either are pirates, or they are carebears that just come here to whine about the pirates that caught them, or that they got scammed by Goons. |

When encountering a gate in a smaller ship, burning back to the gate is almost always better then trying to push your way through. Remember, you get plenty of time to stay cloaked and just weigh your options when you jump through a gate.
NEVER GO STRAIGHT BACK TO THE GATE. Your session change timer is more then likely not over. Give it a few secs before making the dash. ---

The best way to avoid 99% of butthurt: Come to an understanding that you are going to loose, eventually. Sometimes people believe the BS they tell themselves day in and day out, and then when reality hits them like a boot to the skull, they bahhhw. This can be avoided by remaining aware of the fact that somewhere in EVE, there is someone completely capable of killing you if s/he finds you. Stay paranoid. _________________________________________________

Edited by: techzer0 on 23/08/2009 23:43:39 Please jump through a gate and click on a Prototype cloak to try to align without MWD'ing first.... I would have you soooooo quick

These sorts of guides do more harm than good, imo. Some poor new player will read this, think "There's gold in them thar hills and now I can go get it!" and wind up in a world of hurt. Getting someone in or out of low/nullsec isn't complicated. Surviving in lowsec is rather simple. But telling them going into nullsec is a good idea is folly. They have no idea how to replenish ammo, most can't use the map to find stations, and most are going to go the wrong way and wind up in useless 0.0 (drone regions and NPC 0.0) or places they can't use a station at.

Avoid piracy....
I would like to say "Put on a clean shirt, go out, and get a date with a real woman" but that's not really avoiding piracy.

Honestly?
Every new EVE player thinks this at one time or another and when they go to them thar hills to get the gold they run into a gatecamp and die because they didn't even know what a gatecamp WAS.
And they figure that out and die again because they didn't know about disruptor bubble gatecamps.
Most everyone I know who tried EVE and quit after 2 months quit for this type of reason. They'd gotten tired of highsec but found the rest of the game to be unreachable because they kept running into new, surprising ways of dying.
But, as my guide shows, you can avoid MOST of these situations with ease. There's no reason you should ever get probed out or caught ratting unless you just aren't paying enough attention. LowSec gatecamps can be tricky but you can get through them if you're prepared. Only 0.0 disruptor bubble gatecamps are really tricky.
But also (and maybe I should have elaborated on this), the guide assumes your primary focus is "avoiding death on the way to my destination" rather than "how to make riches in 0.0 as a solo battleship". Guide or no guide, I would never go wandering around unfamiliar areas of 0.0 in a solo battleship.
