I've floated this in Features and Ideas in the past, but I wanted to float it here to see what kind of response it got from players. (F&I seems to be more of a portal to the devs.)
Do you guys switch ammo a lot in a fight? I find the current process unnecessarily complicated, especially when you're in the middle of a heated fight.
I'd like to see a system where you could right-click on your guns while they're running and switch ammo on the fly. I think it would make fights much more interesting, because I would switch ammo a lot more. Currently, I only carry 1-2 types of ammo in the hold because if I'm in a fight, switching ammo isn't really feasible. You have to stop guns, wait for the cycle to stop, switch ammo, wait 10 seconds for ammo to load (unless you're using lasers) then re-activate the gun.
I'm not complaining here about the actual switching time. I don't think that should be changed. 10 seconds is a fair penalty for switching ammo. What I'm complaining about is the actual manual process. Plus, there are several chances to misclick, or not load in the new ammo or whatever when you have other things to be concentrating on.
If we're supposed to be elite pilots commanding a large crew, it isn't that unrealistic to imagine we could tell someone "switch ammo" and they'd follow the order. And again, I think it would make the game much more interesting, because I might actually carry 5-6 types of ammo in engagements. If all that's involved is right-click, select "plutonium" then wait out the standard reload time, I'd definitely do it a lot more.
BTW, the same idea applies to missiles, scripts and even crystals. Even though there's no delay with crystals, the same manual process must be applied, and the same fundamental problem exists.
What do others think of this idea?

Your idea sounds fine to me. Since there is a clear penalty for switching ammo, I don't feel it necessary to keep all the manual clicking. There is enough clicking to be done in a fight even with this streamlined ammo switching.

Well i think because they load in full clips the clip needs to be removed and the new one fitted, a nice idea i want to suggest is have the option to queue up another ammo type to be reloaded to the guns when the next time they automatically reload, could make things more interesting maybe, wouldn't work for crystals obviously because of there not being a reload for anything standard T1 :P

We have taken racism to new levels.
Just because he uses a certain color does not take away from what is being said.
If your life is so pathetic that you have to justify your pathetic existence by complaining about such trivial things as what color somebody chose to type in, maybe consider killing yourself.
I like the idea the OP presented. Sorry the thread had to be ruined by the "cool kids" in the forums.

Amarr have the same problem minus the 10 second switch out time. It's still a pain in the ass to switch crystals in battle. You still have about 5-6 clicks to swap out a crystal, plus you have to wait for firing cycle to finish and make sure you re-activate the weapon after you've switched out.
Not looking for "easy mode" here, just trying to improve on a pointless mechanic.

**** right-clicking. **** it all to hell.
There's still plenty of right-clicking in order to switch out ammo in the existing system. Just trying to streamline the process a bit.

OP, you do not need to continue to justify to the stupid why you feel this is a good idea. I agree with you. You are being reasonable by suggesting something change while keeping a balance.
If poeple give a good reason why they disagree, that is just how it is going to be. No need to bother explaining further. If they are stupid enough to need it explained again, they won't get it the second time around either...usually.

The point was that people were basing his words on the color of their skin and not what they really were. I used racism in the context of symbolism, not in it's literal form.

Actually, I've found that for some strange reason, the color teal seems to p*ss off big-mouth noobs and miners. That's always a nice feeling.

Thank you for being the first person to raise a cogent, intelligent point. The teal looks good on the black background, but it blends too much with the lighter grey ones. Not trying to ruin anyone's eyesight, just trying to be a little different. I will experiment with other colors until I find one that suits me.

I agree teal works well with the OP's background, but that green you posted with works significantly better on the greyer backgrounds. ________________________________________________

No.
Seven guns - group them. Seven of each crystal you want to use - stack them in cargo. When you need to change, stop firing by clicking once. Right click, then select the new ammo you want. Re-commence firing. Four clicks.
Notwithstanding the time it takes for my guns' cycle to finish, that will take between 2 and 4 seconds, depending on the situation.

Actually, he makes a valid point. It is annoying to have to wait until the weapon stops firing before you can order the guns to change ammo.
Cre'tal, if I'm reading your post right, you want it so you can order your guns to change ammunition types while they're still in cool down, then, once they finish the current cycle they will automatically stop firing, load the new ammunition type, and them resume firing on the previous target?
If that is what you're wanting, I agree completely. It would streamline ammunition swapping without being unbalancing, or, indeed, really affecting the current system at all beyond making it more efficient for all weapon types to change ammo while firing.

I actually quite agree with this. I think we should also be able to drag ammo on to the slots even when it has ammo loaded to switch the ammo. This with weapon grouping would make more charges usable and relevant in the game.
Also I wrote this in black knowing full well that background would be black, because I'm a ****. _______________ |
