I haven't actually been on sisi to test this, but it's in the patch notes, so I guess it must be deployed on sisi.
The directional scanner is being changed so you can only scan once every two seconds. I believe for someone trying to scan down people one 0.0 this is a significant nerf. I am confident I can scan and adjust the view and scan again in less than two seconds. Potentially the total time to scan down someone could be increased by around 25% or more. This could be the difference between getting the kill or not.
What do you think? Have they thought this one through?

I think the absolute minimum scan time is in the region of 3-4 seconds. it's 5s with max skills, but no rigs/implants.
Therefore, you will never be able to get probes in range, scan and destroy before the target can scan again.

Hes talking about the directional Scanner, not about probing.

IMO no, it's a huge huge pain tbh, the limit is even applied to changing the scanning angle so you need to manually rescan on that also.
If you used to have notify messages shown in your log you'll soon turn the off as it fills up quickly with "The scanner is recalibrating, please wait a second". At least they should disable the button until you can use it again but as it stands now you'll just be spamming it until you get an update in and you won't even know for sure.
Also the delay is slightly longer than 2 seconds, I tried to time it with my watch and hitting the button exactly every 2 seconds would get me the above message on exactly every third click.

Its not that much of a nerf.
Scan 1 .. 2 scan 1 .. 2..
It should help ease the load on the server? Then we get the scan results faster and a faster server. |

Only issue i can see: fast finding targets when you are roaming/ganking on belts. It usually takes me around 1 second to change scan range -> hit scan button.

i'm with deva. it does have an impact, just not a huge one considering current survival rates of macros.
but then again, i dont see how that was so important deserve a nerf when probe results still receive one piece of data for each signal and each probe. a carpet of 8 probes around a planet full of deathstars and drones? prepare for freeze death if you happen to do it in mid combat - putting the gist back into logistics |

I expect this was not intended as a nerf to hunters; rather it was a response to wormhole dwellers dealing with delayed local by spamming the scanner. Also, with the recent topics about probes only being on scan for approximately 6 seconds, I expect that the rate of scan spam has gone up in low-sec and null-sec.

Yeah thought the same. Also might be bot-counter (not sure if eve bots use directional scan atm but tbh never checked)

It's a nerf to roaming gangs. I use the directional scanner to find targets in system and only being able to use it every 2 second is actually quite a nerf to that. Especially considering how fast people pos up as soon as someone enters local. |

I was thinking about it when i read the patch notes.
Two seconds is uncalled for. This is a significant nerf to pirates, who need to locate the target quickly before it gets away and to scouts in general.
Now i don't know the scope of performance issues or exploits, but somewhere between 0.5 - 1 second would not allow the spam, but would still keep the scanner on the same level of efficiency.

Even worse, an inty warps at 13.5 AU/s. So if you're warping, you will now fail to scan half of the system (scan range: ~14AU, in 2 seconds I moved 27 AU away).
WORST. "FIX". EVER.
Please reverse it. It's the first time that I am that ****ed off at CCP. Do they realize how screwed the game is, now? It's just as bad as the "slide show" bug 2-3 months ago. It's game breaking.

just tried it ingame.
good luck catching a ratter in a belt now. just yet another nail in the coffin for small gang pvp or (do I even dare saying it) SOLO pvp.

Here is the reason they nerfed it:
People who were decloaking after gate transit were showing up on scanner before they were showing up on overview. This was causing people to gain a lock before the target "showed up" and created a lot of sad people and a lot of petitions.
What they did wrong:
They nerfed the directional scanner instead of providing a solution to the problem.
How to fix it:
Provide a protective amount of time that targets will not show up on scanner (in the area of 0.5 to 1 second) so that people cannot use the scanner to get a faster lock on targets. This is a direct nerf to the directional scanner and it affects the game everywhere, not just on gates.

What the f*ck are you talking about? CCP has said that the change was to reduce server load by people clicking it constantly. And your reason doesn't even make sense; you can't target unless they're on your overview.

humm i didnt think of the inties/cov ops going 13.5 au/s...
better reduce the interval to 1s. it still nerfs fleets trying to break the node. - putting the gist back into logistics |
