Gratz on buying the biggest piece of crap I have ever heard. The sound has been totally fubared ever since. Hope this new patch will fix it, but I am not holding my breath.

Eve has sound?
I wouldn't mind an excuse to turn sound back on aside from watching the intro movie. (If anyone has a link to the old one I would love to see it.)

I mostly have to keep the sound off anyway to reduce the random crashes when running under Wine in Linux.
Playing your own MP3s makes a lot of sense iff you can associate certain files with various "feels". Maybe a playlist for combat, a playlist for mining, a playlist for hauling, a playlist for spinning your ship in a station... -- EVE Blog EVE Twitter |

Is the audio cutoff still as harsh when you zoom out? It is annoying to either be fully zoomed in or have no sound unless you dock.

I can't wait to finally be able to turn down the station noise! Being able to play music from our computer will rock. Literally!

"A new jukebox (mp3) where players can choose any music they want from their hard drive."
Woah, finally! Nice nice.
Do you also plan as input also streams? Maybe streams like from eve-radio?
Good readings.

Showing you care about sound is nice.
The only thing I would want is while you talk about hull damage notifications etc. - would there be a way to simply disable some kind of sounds? I would probably have sounds on if I could just disable warp sounds.

EVE.. has audio?
First thing I do when I get a new client (or client is patched) is switch off audio to save on CPU and let me listen to music.
Though I imagine if we can play our own music I could see myself using EVE audio again. I wonder how it will behave if you have multiple clients running....

It would be great if the sounds for the UI where changed and possibly the sounds for being locked/locking are tweaked and improved?
Overall good stuff, looking forward to patch day...

Thanks for the customizable station sounds, CCP Baldur! I must admit though, I'm planning to change them all to the old looping sound from the Gallente Pleasure Hub which I was prudent enough to rip from the game as a wav back in 2006 -omg-

The ingame music is already in ogg format at the res\Audio folder, so no worries.
One feature that I would like would be to temporarily reduce volume on sound effects and music whenever's there's activity on Eve Voice/Teamspeak/Ventrilo.

For future, you can get it playing custom mp3s, what about streaming internet radio? I'm thinking EVE Radio (which I love) here...

Dear CCP Baldur,
Is it possible to look at turning down the volume on Invulnerability Field? Or making it respond faster to change in camera distance? I just bought my first Cyclone and have started to shield tank and .. my goodness! I have to take my headset off or turn off sound when playing now, because that constant loud and deep vibration sound just gets inside my skull after the first hour or two of hearing it nonstop.
Thank you!

Spatial management of the sounds is kinda buggy...
When you move around the camera, sounds go crazy, you hear stuff loud on one side and nothing on the other. Also, come 'cracks' which tells you when you will no more get sounds on one side, until it comes back to normal on some event (could not point that out yet...).
I play with headphones because I'm very often on eve voice, and it's the best way not to have annoying noise for the others, with headphones, when you cut sounds on a side while rotating the camera, it's just horrible.
For the turrets of the ship an the different hitting sounds of weapons, it doesn't react properly to camera positioning, you get the sound or you don't get it, there's no fading with distance. When zooming out, it will just cut at some point instead of some kind of more linear sound fading.
If you've got some recipe on how to bugreport sound issues where you can't include (record) the sound issues, give it, I guess it will help you too. -- Fanfest memories : I looked in your eyes And I found the galaxy Now I'm stuck in eve.

5.1 sound (that works with my SPDIF output without needing AC3Filter) would be nice :). Being able to hear from which direction you are being shot would be useful, too.

Thanks for adding more customization to the sounds, especially the damage notifications.
I'd love more audio combat-situational info for the heat of battle when its hard to concentrate on about 30 visual cues. Like maybe:
Notification that I'm webbed or scrambled or that my MWD got kicked off because of it. Notification of any kind of ewar hitting me. Notification of abnormal cap drain Notification that guns are doing less than optimal damage maybe even?
I think there's a great opportunity to make the game better here with more useful audio cues.

I appreciate the effort, and like the blog (especially the MP3 player you're planning to include), but honesty dictates that I remark that the introduction of the new audio 'layer' has been less than stellar.
