I was mining in Unpas with my two characters. My main industry character who is non-combat, and my Caldari combat guy.
I was dumping stuff into a jetcan from my miner then immedietly scooping it into my Caldari's Badger. To make sure it wouldn't disappear I had a single light missile in the jetcan so I could scoop ore.
So this guy in a Rifter drives over and steals the missile. I ignored him and put out another to resume scoop mining. He steals that one too then sets out his own jetcan calling me a noob.
I warped off with my Badger, got my Caracal and equipped it with assault missiles, webber, scram, painter, etc. Came back, webbed and scrammed him and proceeded to pound him into tiny little bits and pieces. It felt great.
He dropped a bunch of stuff too. If I can figure out how to use the killboard, I'm going to try to post the kill. >.>
Anyway. Here's the killmail.

I really don't want to sound like a ****, but why is this at all important? You killed a T1 fit Rifter in a cruiser. I know that's pretty impressive for you (I remember my first kill), but honestly no one cares, this happens about 50,000 times per day (no exaggeration).
If you at least had some decent smack talk with him, or took down a Battleship with your shuttle, then it would be a decent story, but otherwise it's a waste of a slot on the thread list.
Congrats BTW

Well, it's likely not important to you judging by your reply. It doesn't have to be -important- to anyone else, just me. It's a big step foward for me in the game. There's still a lot that I need to learn about EVE but at least this time I can feel secure about being able to handle myself in some situations.
It's my first PVP kill. I'm proud of it. And thanks for the congrats.

I'm not trying to troll, and wish to offer sincere congrats to the OP for his kill, I understand how big a deal it is. However, if everyone made a forum post about their first kill, it would crash the internet.
It's like having a child - it's a "miracle" and all that, but it happens all the time, and no one else cares.
And OP, if you acknowledge that it's only important to you, then why did you post it on a public forum?
(BTW, it woulda been more impressive if you took out the Rifter with your Badger)
oh, and 5 minutes of causing annoyance to a high sec miner probably WAS worth losing a 350K isk ship, especially for a can flipper...

Well, I posted here because 1.) I wanted to embarass the guy publicly.
Annnnd..
2.) My friend Liitar taught me .. literally everything I know about PVPing and gave me some strategies on how to deal with small, fast ships after I lost my Caracal a few days ago to a flipper. (By the way Liitar, I JUST chased off another guy doing the same thing. He didn't die, but he and I talked for a few minutes. He was surprised I'm using a target painter. ^^)
And I basicly wanted to say thanks to Liitar for being really nice and giving advice to a noob like me. :)

First bit of advice: Ignore the trolls. They'll go back under the bridge soon enough.
Second bit of advice: Keep with it. Having a pvp and an industrial char. could prove to be exactly what works best for you. Baiting can flippers is loads of fun. Another fun thing to do is mission baiting(be careful, these guys have more and sharper teeth than can flippers do). Typically a mission jumper will come in, flip your wreck and then wait for you to shoot them so they can warp out and grab a bigger ship to come back and kill you with. Fun thing to do is have a stealth bomber pilot or two in your mission cloaked with you, and make sure to fit a web, scram/disruptor to your ship. A few torpedoes to an unsuspecting mission jumper can brighten your day right up.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words from everyone. ^^
Yeah, it was really exciting. A fist-pump moment at the end when his ship exploded. My heart sort of dropped because I thought he'd escaped. Despite my web he was still fast enough to get out beyond my scram range. So when he disappeared, at first I thought he'd warped. But then I saw the explosion and his pod.
I don't even feel bad about killing a frigate either. Mainly because he had so many 'named' items on his ship. I figure if he's rich enough to buy all that, he's rich enough to buy a new ship.

It was Liitar's idea to equip assault missiles and a target painter. Until he told me about painters, I didn't even know they existed. -.- There's a lot to learn in this game.

Would it be worth the investment to get a 'named' target painter? Would it make a big enough difference to justify spending half a million?

That would depend on circumstances. I doubt it would be justified when using assault missiles against frigates, while I absolutely would spring for it when shooting cruise missiles in a battleship. I haven't run the numbers, though, so I could be wrong in this assessment. Congrats on the kill, by the way. :) ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Would it be worth the investment to get a 'named' target painter? Would it make a big enough difference to justify spending half a million?
a half a million? dear god, yes.
to kill off the inside joke now, named painters are plays on "pwn".
i'd say buy a pwnd or pwnt painter at the least.
just don't get suckered into buying a 'pwnage'.
also, train target painting to 4, then signature focusing (it increases the target painter's effect). then you can use the t2 painter (same attributes as 'pwnage' just higher cpu use)

Oh no. I'll still carebear, I suppose. I doubt I could go full PVP with 20mil ISK and only 2mil skills. >.>

dump mining for missions.
almost the same skills as needed for pvp, good way to pay for pvp, much more profitable than mining.

Big ups to the op for having a go and for wanting more....
who cares if you will continue to carebear, at least your honest (and unaffected by the hive mind of lol ur a carebear types). Everyone has to make isk somehow... now, if you take some of your profits and go out and have a bit of fun losing ships then it keeps the game interesting :)
I can't advise much on Caldari ships sadly.
half a million is not a lot of money to most people and you will get there too but for now, props for pewing and mega props for succeeding against someone who intended to get a fight. I dont want to call you a noob, but you know what I mean

Join a good pvp corp and never look back. I personally have never seen isk as an issue and personal skill isn't that important if your a trough away tackler. Just rat in low sec or 0.0 in a pvp ship while you wait for fights or even try trading or scamming. Also I highly recommend creating a second character on your account that can use a bestower with cargohold optimization rigs and t2 cargo expanders. This only takes a couple hours or so to train and can hold around 20k m3 with minimal skills. Use this character to supply your main if you find that your sec status is a little low.

Well, the thing is. I wanted to run missions with my Caldari combat guy. The problem is that I haven't found an agent anywhere near Unpas that I can use with him. They all say unavailable.
I still have my 'epic arc' mission, but it's like.. 14 jumps away from where all of my stuff is at.

Indeed. Still remember my first kill. Rifter vs Rifter.
I ran around the room expelling adrenaline after the extremely close fight.

I started pvp back in the day when new characters started with <800k skillpoints and no money.
Do it.
