I run a Nightmare for L4s usually but fancy a change, cruiser size hull change - and I know it won't be faster, etc.
I was wondering what would be quicker a Legion or Absolution, and I'm not talking about value for money, just purely which will be quicker. Looked at EFT a bit, but as usual what happens in EFT isn't always true to what actually happens in Eve.

Absolution. Legion lacks DPS, topping out around 750 with overheating. An Absolution beats that by a good 100 dps with its guns running cold, and has drones on top of it.
Though, with both ships lacking range bonuses, they're pretty terrible for missions either way. You'll either be burning through scorch ammo, or spending half the mission chasing stuff that's kiting you.

So then you have the option of Legion which has an SS that boost AB speed and a much smaller sig radius and still amazing tank, much faster speed will more than make up for damage bonus Absolution may have.
Remember, Subsystem skills are only rank 1 so getting each to five will only take 4 days with good implants and learning skills and with them at lvl 5 the legion will kick the crap out of the Absolution.

- Legion can have range bonus, if you fit the liquid crystal magnifier offensive subsystem. Which you wil want anyway.

I would go with a legion for this.

if you got the skills Heavy beam laser II Absolution , as it has drones to take care os pesky frigates.
I used to run lvl 4 missions day in day out with one on my old character, altho if a legion could carry 25m3 drones standard, i would suggest that.

Given those two choices, absolution. However, an abaddon beats the crap out of both. -----------------------------------------------------

As someone who has used an Absolution, Paladin and a Legion regularly in lvl 4s, I can confirm that a Legion > Absolution by FAR with subs at lvl 5 (which they should be considering how quick they are to train). I still love my Absolution but it can't compete with a Legion in lvl 4s speed wise, it's just too clunky. Abso uses its tank to soak up damage, Legion just zooms through melting everything barely getting a scratch and still has a mean tank for a cruiser. In fact the Legion can finish a lot of lvl4s faster than the Paladin...of course it can't tractor /salvage at the same time like the Paladin.

Show me some absolution numbers. I would love to prove you wrong on this.

1 legion equals 2-3 fitted absols.
legion is far to expensice to loose at this stage. For the same isk amount i can do far better with an absol for same isk. and rushing missions is borning. i prefer to take my time and just, cruise along.

I can't think why anyone would choose to be suboptimal when running missions. T3 cruisers, as great as they are, aren't a patch on battleships in terms of just getting the job done as quickly as possible.

you are already using the nightmare, what in new eden could inspire you to even consider using such suboptimal ships for mission running.

Legion has come down in price, can now buy ship + subs if careful for just over 500 mil. If buy lowest sell prices without making buy orders its about 650 atm.
The legion is very flexible in how one can run it. You can run cov-ops cloak and warp while cloaked - good for low sec. You can run a sub so immune to warp bubbles - very good for null sec. Comes down to how and where your runing missions etc.
My legion isn't fully skilled and I have a nice deadspace MAR plus passive resists and it still is close to 600 dps omni-tanked. I've been runing sites with it so it has its dps neuted for probe launcher/cloak/tractor/salv/analyser/hacker plus ecm (in hope to get out if get jumped in low sec).

Absolutely. The only excuse for running 4s in a T3 cruiser is if you already have your med weapons maxed and have absolutely no large gun skills yet. Even then, it's just a stalling tactic as with reasonable skills, your Amarr BSes will assert their inherent superiority as the tool designed for the job. A T1 Navy Apoc outperforms a T3 cruiser by a significant margin for comparable ISK and a T1 Abaddon can outperform it by a reasonable margin for a massive reduction in cost if your fitting skills are very good.
On the other hand, you can absolutely blaze your way through L3s with a T3 cruiser and earn as much as L4s in a good BS (but a Paladin or Golem will slaughter your ISK/hr) if you spend your LPs wisely and get the fair market value for them. You can also run a good standings gain service on the side for even more ISK if you're online reliably enough. ***************

The question the op asked, was: 'Legion or Absolution'. So the whole battelships debate is kind of off-topic. -- The future is black.

Not when either choice is dumb given the available options.
If I had to choose Absolution is the obvious choice - more DPS, higher resists, drones.

You and a few other posters should re-read the OP.
I'd reccomend the legion over the Abso, you get alot more flexibility in one package if you bring a number of subsystems (plus it can be fun to experiment with off the wall setups). Plus they're just plain fun to fly.

Yep, I too find grinding away for longer than is necessary on L4 missions in ships that are suboptimal for the task to be lots of fun also.
ISK/hour is overrated and missions are very stimulating.

I fly my Absolution in Level 4 missions over my Abaddon. Although the DPS is relativly similar, just the added mobility helps to beat the pants off my abaddon in mission completion times. Slowboating to gates just isn't fun.
However, in ~ 2 weeks this will probably change because I'll have Large T2 pulses. Then my abaddon will become my primary mission ship again.

In the same fit?
Abso has 7/3/7 slot layout, Legion has (at best) 6/3/7, 7/3/6 slots (depending on subsystems). Abso has ROF bonus which beats the Legions LCM subsys 10% damage per level.
The only thing the Legion does better is being a cruiser-sized hull and less cap usage due to lacking the ROF bonus.
(I'm assuming both fits using 6 HPL2s with AN Multifreq or Scorch as appropriate)

Its not wise to build just another absolution out of legion. If u want absolution take absolution.
