The problem are not people that log off - the problem are people that use an exploit to let the ship disapear within seconds. Yesterday a CA BS - pinned down, scrambled, jammed, webbed, f.cked!!! And what does the CA guy do??? Log off and the ship disapears in 10 seconds because he probably has a second client running, logs on his alt and our nice BS target does "poff" - and vanishes. We petition these guys - always! And i can only hope CCP gives warnings or bans them.

You can petition on that? I didn't know that. We had several CA indies do that trick to us recently....

How about this:
You log out / get disconnected / pull the plug / whatever. Your ship tries to warp off if possible. Now there are two possibilites. Your ship is either scrambled and cannot warp or it can. If it cannot: At that time you are invulnerable to NPC fire for 5 minutes and always vulnerable to player's fire. Your ship stays 10 minutes in space before it disappears, regardless if you log in with another character or not. If it can: Your ship disappears immediatly once leaving its warp.
Perfect solution, do you see any possible exploits?

the real problem is the log IN exploit, where a group of ships enters a system then logs out except one. that ship awaits a ship or multiple ships, then on TS or Xfire alerts the logged out ships and they gang warp to take out the unexpecting opposition.

the first step would be to ban everyone that agrees with logging out to save his ship.
second step would be, if the person loggs and isnt able to warp, as in being scrambled past the strenght of warp core stabs he has on, then he stays there for ever, if he aint scambled then he warps away
i crash alot due to my ****e connection. But i feel that this would be the only fair way.

@the person who talked about rl emergenceys, well thats it thewy are in rl, and therfore have nothing to do with eve. If your wife is having a seizure and yiour in combat..then decide, whats more important...your wife or eve. Id choose eve as im not stupid enough to get married. Insert latest playgirl instead of wife and then it id be a tough one, and i therefore dont really know how id react in such a stressful momment especially if she were bobbin her head....ya know waht i mean

I think you mean Planetside
it was 10 seconds to log off in friendly teritory, 20 in un-owned and 30 in enemy
realy all we need is [ If targted and warp jammed by another ship, the target ship will not dissipear from space. ]
this would keep people from getting pwnd by the cheating npc spawns at 0 meters from ship... yet still keep people from loging off in pvp

Well the login traps seems to lose their sting a bit now. In the Shiva test any ship logging off in space will find all their modules offline when they log on.
That means having to spend a fair bit of time bringing your system back online

OMG that`s plain stupid...
You sure this is an intended shiva feature and not a bug?
It will take upto 4-5 mins to activate each module on a BS
