How about that when we decide to log-out we get a 10 second timer to it. So after 10 seconds we will log out. You just push the log-out button and the timer starts. I saw this in some game and it worked really well. ______________________________________________ "I¦m not even supposed to be here!", Dante. |

In games like EQ you have to hit a camp/log out button you have like 20 or so before it logs you. You can only do this in a safe place. If you are attacked or in the process of being attacked you have to start the timer all over again.
Maybe something like this would be ok?

Edited by: Space Jelly on 13/10/2004 12:47:01 you'd still be in the game.
EnB had that. If you logged out in a station it'd take 20 seconds. In space it'd take 60 seconds. And in space, moving cancelled the logout process.
Now if you CTD, then you'd be in trouble as your ship still existed in the game world. The times I crashed out while in combat were quite frequent in the early stages of the games development and sometimes you couldn't log in straight away due to account in use errors (another story that one) and when you finally get back in it is usually to a wrecked ship with a message asking if you need a tow back to station.
So, not really a perfect way of doing it due to the fact that games do crash, but as EnB's penalties for death were no where near as severe as EVE's it was acceptable.

Edited by: Shaddex on 13/10/2004 13:45:04 In Earth and Beyond :- If you where docked at a station, Log out time was 0 sec's In space it was 20 seconds. Move, get shoot, anything and the logout cancelled. If you CTD'd, you would get automatically logged out after the attack stopped or you stopped moving etc..
Great idea and I think it would work well in EVE. ----------------------------------------------
There are only 10 ways to understand binary. Either you do, or you dont. |

I doubt that 10 seconds will be that important in Rl... except in a case of fire or some kind of a accident. ______________________________________________ "I¦m not even supposed to be here!", Dante. |

for the older, just put in wife/husband or friend/girlfriend. I'm lucky not one of those. No screaming parent, no girlfriend/wife that needs attention __________________________________________________ "Time will reveal everything, but only once so be prepared." |

Im not sure about the timer thing it would get annoying when you just want to log quickly, but something along the lines of what Killash Larz said cus it does get annoying when ya attack someone they log so ya gotta kill em before they warp away, it's a majorly annoying and over used exploit n ccp need to come up with something soon(i've been hoping shiva will solve most the problems we have now). *crosses fingers*

The log out timer would f*** me off no end. Ive lost count of the amount of times ive lagged mid combat and had to log out and bac real quick to finish the fight. Id be p****s as f*** to know my char was stuck in the game getting ganked AGAIN due to lag knowing it was trapped there due to a log out timer

Even if you log out, emergency warp don't do nothing if your scrambled. Well its not supposed to. You should have enough time to pwn your opponent if he hits the poof key.

simple, make it so that one can NOT log out once he enters the game, otherwise he gets physically assaulted by a t1000 or whatever would kick his butt; it'd of course mean that playing EVE would then become a 365/365 occupation, which has some sort of backdraws, but hey! can't you make an effort for the sake of the community ?
