Edited by: christymoore on 23/08/2009 00:07:01 Edited by: christymoore on 23/08/2009 00:04:51 Ok lemme take this from the beginning . My best friend and i went into our local internet cafe for some internet spceship pewpew lst saturday after work and we were logging in as usual when he discovered to his dismay all of his 3 acounts passwords have been changed (His home pc got infected with a keylogging programme from a irl mates hacked msn account that was sending out links to a chinese electrical wholesale site) and not only that but his account infornation which has been the same for over a year had been changed including the acounts e-mail address (there goes the normal password retrieval SOP out the window).
So naturaly enough he was in a state of panic (and he still is)or i wouldnt be posting this . He started off by doing the logical thing and asking me to make a petition for him on my account which i did as all 3 of his accounts were denied ot him and we got a reply a couple of hous later saying the accounts were locked down and he gave some info and it was going to be sorted , 3 days passed and no reply or update so he created a trial account which he has since upgraded to a full and continued the petition on his caracter ''Evil Sakura'' and got no reply for afew days .
Fair enough we thought its gonna be sorted an he put his faith in CCP as he is a trusting/Laid back guy and he knew his accounts were all safe and locked down until a gm got to him , until he logged on yesterday and saw on his evemon that one of his accounts main charactes a 24m sp miner/dread pilot had switched to a noob corp and was bviously being lined up to be moved to aother account by a 3rd party and i can pretty safey say he almost died on he spot , so now he is left scratching his head not knowing what to do as the standard operation procedure has totally let him down and all he can do is maybe phone CCP .
Here is a taster of what he stands to lose/has lost already : 1.7billion isk (already gone) Fitted Revalation Charon Orca Nightmare Proteus and another 5 billion + worth of assets and pvp fitted ships/exhumers.
Not to mention over 15 months subbing 3 accounts and doing this mainly by supporting the GTC system.
Long winded i know but looking at his situation makes me nervous tbh for my account and the other 5-6 guys we play with in the net cafe all feel h same and cant believe that the 3rd party got a hold of the account that was suppossed to be safely locked down , as i/we are all sick of listening to him whining all i ask is a GM actually gives his petition he has mae on has newly made character 'Evil Sakura' a swift reply and or a support telephone number as he cant find one apparently.

Your "friend" must be really stupid to fall for a keylogger.
The proper solution to this problem is to get new friends.

Link was from one of his best friends who failed to tell him his msn account had been hacked , thats why he opened it hell i would have also as sometimes he sends funny links for games that are great for passing time in the office , as for upgrading the trial ... he did so as he thought maybe peition was being ignored as it was a trial account , or so he said

Unless you're using IE, you can't get keylogged from just opening a website.
You would have to:
1. Open website 2. Allow activeX plugin to be installed (keylogger) or 3. Click on a keylogger link, download it and run it on your machine. (the way the keylogger posts on eve-o work)
In other words, he's full of it, or dumb and runs IE. In which case he deserved learning a hard lesson.

CCP needs to be vigilant here yet move with haste.
Their handling of this is extreme and so far, no one appears to have posted "I was banned, but after a check by CCP, I'm back up and running".
From my perspective, having worked on triage teams, CCP is taking too long to work out from logs of ips the log in information verifying the person doing the dealings was not the same as the actual owner.
Either people have been cleared and sheepishly are not posting about their brushes with the ban stick (If this is you, please post so those that lost stuff have reason to stick with the game) or no one has been cleared.
The couple of people i know that have 'gone' from the game were good people. This has shattered them emotionally and on non-eve game forums, the word is spreading that customer care is not strong in this game.
Right about now, it seems CCP is unable to match up login ip addresses with the ISK farmers or the original owners. In a World where this sort of work can be done in almost any programming language or SQL in very little time, its sad to see CCP doesn't have a fast response team following a procedure to rectify this.
This is the perception.
CCP and those of you that have been nullified of this awful event need to make it clear that we, the 'loyal' customers aren't considered 'guilty until proven innocent'.
CSM people, bring that to the table please.
I don't care about 'visibility' of the process, i just want to see results.

Well the problem is and very few players will notice his until in my situation of losing 18 months work or so and untold hours . While i was at work this guy got my accounts in and in gaining access to the accounts also got access to my character and account info on the eve-o websie which allowed him to basically 100% bypass the password retrieval system they have in place which is shocking to say the least
P.S Its worth noting from a ccp perspective that there might be a hint in my validity by the fact 99% of my logins are from 2 ips 1st is my home in galway west of ireland and 2nd is a net cafe i go to with friends to pvp in galway city ... not somewhere in the back end of china , worth checking before you hand my accounts to someone

a keylogger is not a virus or any malware is a valid legal application ( ppl like you have a hard time to understand this btw did u you know that some anti-viruses say the flash.exe from the spam thread in this forum is a legit software?)
just go to a web page like this http://download.cnet.com/Free-KGB-Key-Logger/3000-2162_4-10357898.html
download the trial keylogger install on cybercafe PC if u know that eve players play there make a new email where to receive the kyelogger log file ?????? profit

From a purely layman's point of view I can think of 2 points. Firstly, CCP are obviously being targeted by a concerted attack of unprecedented levels. Presumably, if they were able to cope with the current situation in a 'timely' manner for the victims, it would have required a few offices full of employees who had been sitting around for the last few years twiddling their thumbs, and waiting for this kind of attack to happen. As frustrating as it is for your friend, I am sure you and your friend can appreciate that fact. I wouldn't want to be working in the relevant ccp department atm.
Secondly, I would hope and guess that they are trying to do more than just chase their tail, trying to return accounts back to their original owners in their original condition. Presumably they are trying to fight back, and I guess that would sometimes mean letting things play out a bit.
Best of luck to your friend though. As usual there are a few smug bastards itt, all ****y with their 'vast' knowledge. It's not a crime to be relatively new to the internet.

Um, no.
Go google "Drive-By Download". Flash has had several vulnerabilities recently that allowed such thing to happen. No clicking, no permission. Heck, you didn't have to even go to a 'bad' site. They put the malware in google ads run by many reputable gaming sites.

I disagree its been almost a week and since i provided the security info and no reply , its the system in place that sucks tbh im ocked out of subbing and instantly locked out of the account as email addy is changed and the fact right now 2 of my accounts are being subbed by me and i cant do anything about it and also after being locked ccp let the hacker reopen the accounts .
I dont see why people get so anal about keylogging or immediatly claim someone buys isk if keylogged , its a very naive attitude and i hope you have all the answers if this happens to you

The you suddenly realize that keyloggers require the record extension that is disabled in X11 by default.
Maleware does indeed exists for Linux but it's a lot harder to compromise a system.

And yet no reply from a GM? Is this a statement of CCP's intent to deal with the biggest problem that the game is facing? In my opinion they are really falling down in the customer relations department, because this is a business, which my friend has invested RL money in. Now if they cant do a simple IP check and even extend to a phone call to the party that feels in a position of unknowing and not even reply to this thread? what does that say for everyone else? all these people passing judgement on the suitation clearly dont have the intellegence to picture themselves in the position my friend is in, and know that they would also feel very disatisfied. To sum it up, disappointment in the reactions of CCP and their action to date is an understatement. Wise up and start dealing with the problem before you start losing more and more players

Ok so here we go:
- CCP is terrible.
- Need GM to answer on forums when they don't do that.
- Complain to people who don't believe it and won't believe it ever no matter what.
- Due to Devs hating your 'friend' and being evil Eve is now dying due to this issue.
- You can't admit you were either banned for buying ISK, or got screwed by your free keylogger from ISK-sellers.
- You haven't named a single character here and are trolling.
Have I missed any points here?

Ok
- CCP arent terrible their security protocol and petition response times are however.
- I have actually got alot of positive replies and people in a similar position mailing me and as i said above if it speeds things along i see no harm .
- I never said they hated me nor did my friend , they just need to overhaul their security protocol and get ontop of this situation before they start losing loyal customers to the very people they focused their recent "UNHOLY RAGE" campaign against.
- Read the whole thread , my 1st keylogger in 4 years i run firefox with all the bells and whistles , i just got caught because i clicked a link in a mail one of my best friends sent me after his msn account was hacked unknown to me.
- Characters comprimised were Roleplay 24m SP pvp character ( Account is still locked since the 15th since i got account locked before the hacker could change the account email addy and im now waiting patiently in line with my petition ) Myth Lander // Curb Smile 23/24m SP industrialists ( The reason i made this thread , as the accounts had their e-mail addy changed in account management when i was at work i came back and initially got the accounts locked but they got reopened due to the accounts email addy being changed and are currently being moved to a new corp and for all i know are trading RMT isk or being sold for money themselves , all i want is them locked so i can do as im doing with roleplay above ). So it is infact you who is the troll

Nah that about covers it

As much as I hate to say it, as I'm dealing with a similar problem.. do you really think if they're not even paying attention to petitions because of the "backlog", that they'll pay attention to the forums?
However, I concur with the need of some form of communication from the GM's or anyone from CCP with a clue as to what is actually causing so much of a problem with the time it takes to address issues/petitions of this nature.

The fact remains that posting on the forums isn't going to help one bit.
I think its pretty apparent that they are a bit overwhelmed with issues of this nature thanks to our RMT friends spamming the forums etc. A lot of people were caught out by it before word spread (I know, in this case it came from another source, but it is still the same issue).
Investigations of this sort are the most time consuming, they always have been. They have to be absolutely certain before permanent action is taken one way or another. Until they investigate it is not clear who the villian is, you... or another party entirely. I think we have all seen people start threads like this and time after time it turns out they were lying through their teeth (note: I am not saying that you are in this case). Its a huge pain in the butt for everyone concerned and unfortunately due to the jump in the frequency of these cases being generated everyone is going to have a long wait time.
Still, its better to deal with the wait as the only sure and fast alternative would be to perma ban all accounts connected to the case and clear it from the backlog. And I don't think anyone affected really wants that to be the resolution.
