Is there an article by CCP anywhere explaining the combat mechanics? As in, how does sig radius and turret sig analysis play into tracking and radial velocity w/ ranges. How much is damage affected if outside optimal but within falloff? Can you even hit if outside of falloff?
What about missiles? Explosion vel vs ship vel, explosion radius vs sig radius.
There used to be a guide posted on the website that would break it down for you. But now that only place I can find it, is in Evelopedia which is written by a player. Has CCP forgotton about having a game guide? |

there's lots and lots of that info available ... evelopedia, wiki, and squillions of blogs and other places.
You might find someone here willing to do all the searching and post the links for you. We can build and sell pretty much every ship. Check my bio for details. Our pirate epic arc completion packages really are very good: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread |

But thats just it, it's all written by other players. Where is the credibility? I could go write a blog write now saying that if the tracking speed is slower than the radial velocity of the target ship, you miss. But that could or could not have been how the game is coded. Maybe there is a chance you still hit, with penalties. How does said pilot's skills effect the outcome of probability? My point is, there was once a guide posted on the Eve website. Where did it go? Did the content no longer apply because of all the changes in patches? If so, where is the new systems info? |

Most of the formulas has been generated from extensive testing and double checked several times by other players. It's not that difficult to generate a formula if you have enough data points. I have done it personally with both probe strength drop off from range and ship acceleration.
When it comes to weapon hit formulas there used to be a CCP produced flash program where you could input stuff like range and sig radius etc and get the hit chance. I decomplied that and the formulas in it corresponded perfectly to what the players had found out them self. "Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason." |

CCP may have designed the game, but it can be a long way from there to "knowing" the game.

There have never been an official guide posted by CCP unless you mean the flash tool for hit mechanics, all text guides have always been player written, they copied the guides verbatim from EON guides, most if not all of that stuff was later moved to the wiki. My old probe guide used to be one of those, it was posted as it where including a couple of smaller errors that I hadn't figured correctly at the time.
That flash tool btw had one big problem, it didn't include hit quality in the dps calculation so player written tools where actually more accurate. "Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason." |
