Edited by: Cazor Rodiac on 13/10/2004 20:15:38 Hi there,
As an economic student I was wondering how much the exchange rate would be between the ISK, the Euro and the dollar.
Based on what I could ( quickly so I took cigarettes ase a comparison ) gather from the market it should be something like this:
1 package of cigarettes cost 10 ISK in EVE 1 package of cigarettes cost 3,90 EURO in Holland ( based on internet buy from a big Dutch retailer).
So this means there is a value difference of 10ISK to 3,90EURO
This means that one ISK is worth 0,39 EURO Or, 1 EURO is 39 ISK
I couldn't find the price of a package of Marlboro in the U.S. so feel free to add it.
( This small research is based on the Big Mac test which is issued at The Economist once a year. )
Greetings,

they used to cover eve, but i guess there were problems with people not paying up. but as you can see, it is true that time spent accumulating virtual money online is actually worth something in hard currency (just not much)

Well since purchsing or selling isk for rl currency is aginst the EULA i wouldnt reccomend using e-bay for any such transactions as if ccp find out you could face a hefty ban.

Who says this has anything to do with ebay sales?
If I was a character in EVE, how "rich" would I be comparatively?
Does the average EVE citizen get 30,000 ISK a year to live on?
Are all pod pilots the richest citizens in EVE?
So what? I dislike signatures... *hmph* |

Yes, an EVE 'Top 100 Rich List' would be interesting indeed.
The biggest side effect of such a publication would probably those people on it would be overwhelmed with begging letters. :)
At what point are you considered wealthy? There's two comparisons - how rich you are compared to the average Eve citizen, and how rich you are compared to your peers, i.e. other 'elite' pod-using pilots. We are told that we are the elite pilots of the galaxy, but we have no basis for comparison...knowing the average salary of John Doe on Pator would be one method.
Perhaps someone creating the backstory could think about this, and slip a reference to the average salary in somewhere?

I'm sorry to tell this to you, but you may want to take a few extra courses in math.... 10 isk = 3.90 euro 1 isk = 0.39 euro [1/.39]isk = [0.39/0.39] euro ~2.56 isk = 1 euro

In case you care:
The price of cigarettes across Europe might be a good economic indicator, but as far as the US is concerend it is totally inflated.
In the US, cigarettes are being taxed many-many times what they were just a few years ago, but US inflation has increased only a fraction of that amount over the same time period.
Might I suggest another indicator - the Big Mac (Royal with Cheese) from McDonald's?

/me starts coughing from behind some heavily taxed smoke.
I'll eat these cigarettes if the US has a higher level of tax than the UK on cigarettes.
