I've teamed up with a buddy to start mining in 0.7 space using our secure containers and indys to haul them, but the problem is we can't seem to find any 0.7 systems that have good ore that are remotely close to good places to sell it. We've been doing Scordite in the past, and were wondering if this is the best ore to pursue in 0.7 space.
Basically, we need advice on how to 'set things up' to be efficient; what ore go to after, how many jumps for collecting the ore is acceptable, etc.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Pyerite sells very good but you can usually find oplagioclase asteroids that contain mexalon in 0.7 and better security. Best thing to do imo is check the market and set a sell order in the system you mine the ore, make sure to use a station with refining facility and if your price is right sooner or later a manufacturer will buy it. When I mine I do it in 0.9 and either use it to produce for the corp or set a sell order to get rid of overstocks usually everything is sold within a few days at `reasonable`prices for the region. Another option is to stockpile a lot of ore ( a few million units) and then contact a manuyufacturing corp to get a good deal.

Are you talking about selling the refined components rather than the straight ore? Is that feasable for a 'starter' miner?

Secure containers work in other places besides .7 systems you know. Try looking for places in .5 and .6 too. That should expand your horizons and opportunities considerably.
The most important thing to do will be to set up insta jumps. They will save enormous amounts of time when you're picking up your ore, and delivering it to the right market. It doesn't really matter if you have to go 7 jumps to sell your ore if the route is already set up for you. And if you have insta jumps directly to your ore cans in the belt, you don't have to worry about npc's shooting you when you are in your vulnerable indy.

What technique do I use to establish a bookmark to a spot in space where there is nothing? Or where I am currently at?
I constantly hear people talk about how they'll set a bookmark 15K behind a station and when they warp in they land right on top of it; but how do they set a bookmark in the 'nothing' behind the station?

Open the people and places window. Click on the places tab. On the bottom is a button that says "add bookmark". That will open a window with some places to label your bookmark. Just hit "ok" really fast if you're moving and edit the label later. The bookmark isn't actually placed until you hit the "ok" button.
For things like stations and stargates i make the bookmark 11km past the object i want to warp to. For a cargo container you want to make it about 13km past it.

Another way to make a rough and temporary bookmark (although the above method is preferred) is to bookmark a 'roid around 13-15km past your mining spot in a direct line from the 'roid through your spot to the station you are hauling to. Takes a little bit of planning and perhaps some testing but works well also if the belt alignment suits.

I still feel Scordite is the best ore to mine in .7+ space. It has a weight of .15. Compared to the other ores like Veld and Plag and even Omber, Scordite has the best price per mined yield. For example Veld weighs .1 and has a price of 4-5isk generally. Scordite can be sold for 10-11 Isk generally and weighs only 50% more, yet you can sell for 100% more than Veld. Even comparing Omber to Scordite, Scordite wins.
I would designate someone in the corp to train refining skills high, that way they can refine your loot from hunting and the ore you mine, into minerals that can be sold for more than just selling the loot or ore straight (of course some items found as loot can be sold individually on escrow for good Isk).
Also you may want to purchase BPos of Cruisers and mine ore to refine for minerals to produce Cruisers for a good profit. You will want to designate a person to train Industry skills up to produce in the factory at lower min cost and faster production speed.
Have haulers lined up to constantly take the ore to the station, to avoid ore thieves. Never shoot at an ore thief in .7+, unless you want to be destroyed by Concord. I would say mine in the same system your main station is. You want to take intoaffect standings you have with the station for your refiner, and for closeness of hauling deliveries. If you start mining in .3 and lower, be ready to have protectors protecting your mining ops, ore thieves will shoot first, steal your stuff later. If you mine in systems 3-4jumps from your home station, this will make your haulers more vulnerable to attacks through lower security space, some ore thieves can tank Concord and turret attacks, I have seen it done. --------------------------------------------------- (\_/) Is this bunny or Picachu? how do ore theives work?? i thought if you put stuff in a 'secure container' they have a password or something, how can someone steal it? especially in .7 space, they cant attack you right? well i mean not without concord coming right? im not sure how that whole security thing works yet but in .7 space how could ore thieves work? do they guess the password on the contrainers or something?

Most people mine out of jettison cans, which hold a lot more than giant secures (27500 vs 3900 m3) and when it's full, 2 or 3 hauler trips will empty the lot.
Ore thieves tend to target these cans rather than passworded secure containers.

oh nevermind, i was jut in 1.0 space and found a giant secure container so i decided to see if what you said is true and it isnt, it asked me for a password and i couldnt open it! so apparently the password thing does work in high security. what's the deal???? i guess theives arent a problem in that security then

No, you can no longer anchor and/or password protect a secure container in 0.8 to 1.0 security level systems. This system went into effect about seven months ago.
What you tried to open was a container dropped and anchored prior to that change. There are still thousands of secure containers spread all over the 0.8 to 1.0 systems though as they were never removed by CCP even though they said they would be removed after a given time period to allow players to get their stuff out prior to deletion.

wow those things are REALLY annoying, i cant stand going to a belt and seeing like 50 cans all over the place and wondering what's been dropped by rats and what's just secure. it's so annoying. i have to scan and go down the list every time, i mean yeah that's not bad but it would be nice if i saw a little icon of something floating there to just click and approach, knowing that its just some item left there. are they going to clean it up ever?
