So I was playing around with the math (as you do... Ok as I do.) And this is what I got.
1 light year is about 60 AU, the galaxy is about 3000 light years across so it would take 10 hours to warp from one side of it to another. In central systems starts are usually very packed, such that it would be quicker to warp between two stars than to suffer the acceleration and deceleration time from star-gating between them.
Finaly "Oh wow warp is so fast" lets use this to put the size of the universe in to perspective. We've all see how fast warp is, and we can all concepualize ten hours it would take to traverse the galaxy. But how long would it take to get to the next galaxy across. Only 10 years. What about the universe 40million years to warp across. Nice.
Space is really big. Nice of eve to put it in to perspective. Not that flying past all these planets at 1000km/h then jumping to 3 trilion/h (20000x the speed of light) gives you any sense of perspective.

1 AU ~ 150,000,000 km.
1 lightyear = 9.46 * 10^12 km.
1 light year ~ 63,240 AU.
The galaxy is about ~100,000 lightyears in diameter.
In EVE, a fair amount of ships travel at 3 AU / second. Thats just under 1500 times faster than the speed of light. Its called warp drive for a reason.
And anyway, astronomers tend to measure large distances in parsecs, not lightyears. You are terrible at math and science in general. Please never post again. "The reality is that the sandbox is amoral. You don't have to like it, but...reality owns." |

Anytime someone says "Space is big," its at least a reference to Mr. Adams, even if they don't realize it, you magnificent hoopy.
Also, to be more clear, when I say galaxy, I mean the Milky Way is ~100,000 light years in diameter.
