New trade item: Ship consumables. A combination of consumer electronics, spare parts, and food. Combined into crates for simplicity. For ever hour your logged on the game you must provide:
Frigate: 1 unit Destroyer: 5 units Cruiser: 25 units Battlecruiser: 50 units Battleship: 150 units
Otherwise ship will slowly take damage, and crew morale will drop. Not necissary for shuttles.
Giving your crew extra:
-Consumer electronics -Booze -Food -Entertainment stuff
....gives your crew temporary boost in Morale. Morale slightly effects stats such as turning speed, weapons accuracy, shield recharge rates.
*POS that manufactures trade items.*

Like there isn't enough drudgery already in EVE?
Please don't turn it into an uber-strategy game where you have to control the number of peas on every citizens plate..... ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

Well, my answer to your thread is simple... SHIPS are commanded by a single person pod - we no longer use crews.

You are both right and wrong in this, many of the ships in Eve, either have a crew or they have the facility to have a crew. Of course at the moment this is a purely background roleplay issue. However there have been many threads on the subject of crew.
But I think it is agreed by many who post here that pods reduce the number of crew needed but they dont eliminate the requirement entirely. However the game has no mechanics of crew at the moment anyway, but for my part I hope the powers that be introduce them. We (the players) are pod pilots...no crew. NPC ships have crews...We dont. Your avatar is stark nikad floating in bio jell with several tubes and wires implanted into them. Your pod is your life...you cant get out and walk around a station...

Read the "Jovian Wet Grave" chronicle. Pods completely eliminate the need for any crew by making the ship seem to become your body. When you concentrate on moving, the engines fire in that direction. When you squint, you target lock on something. No crew... none.
Now I wouldn't be adverse to fuel and ship maintenance. The idea that these ships are of such high technology that parts never fail and break down is a bit beyond what I can believe. Generally the more high-tech something is the more often it breaks, in my experience.

1. Crews would be good to give bonuses similar to Hardwiring implants. Crews are also an isk sink which is good.
2. Consumables that increase ship performance would be good - but not required. Think of this as "food" that would allow you to regenerate, fight better, or move faster.
Great idea.

There are several threads that already mention Crews.
This is the first time I heard of consumables to improve ship performance.
I would pay for "A-10 Rocket Fuel" - increase ship speed by 10% for 30 seconds!!!

Psionis - go read the "jovian Wet Grave"
pods DO NOT ELIMINATE the need for crew - they reduce it.
Quote: This is a capsule," Anu said to the Caldari. "It is used to control a ship. With it a ship a big as this one can be controlled with only a handful of crew and smaller ships, like your frigates, can even be controlled by a single person." "How is this possible?" Ouriye asked. He was obviously skeptical, even if he didn't seem as surprised by what Anu said as the other Caldari. "The controller, captain if you like, of the ship is stationed inside the capsule. Through it, he's neural rigged to all parts of the ship. The capsule is like one gigantic computer, with the captain at the core, controlling everything." Any answered. "But how can a single man control a whole ship?" Ouriye pressed. "Thank you, captain, I was coming to that. As I said, the captain acts as the central unit in a highly advanced computer. This role allows him to access and evaluate data at extreme pace. He can easily handle the jobs it takes 5 or 10 people to do normally. It also makes him a better commander, he has better understanding and awareness of his environment and he's not boggled down by tedious crew management issues and frequent communication breakdowns are now history." Anu finished, looking over the faces of the thoughtful Caldari standing before him. "So what is the downside?" Pirkotan asked. "There is always a downside." "Not in this case, lieutenant," Anu replied. "The capsule offers greater control to ships, yet fewer crew members. As you know one of the biggest costs in maintaining a ship is training the crew, this cost is now much reduced. We Jovians are not numerous, yet we can field a very formidable fleet because of capsules."

There was a thread that talked about things like specialized crew that gave bonuses to various stats and stuff.
The idea of optional consumables is basically that same idea for Boosters in Shiva - except they are for your ship.
FYI a booster will give you a temporary bonus, like 5% tracking speed bonus or a +10 to your Perception for 10 seconds.

I am not in favor of this idea. The idea of a crew should merely be for background alone, but not a reoccuring fee. However, the notion of being a single pod inside a massive ship is moronic. The ships have window and*****pits.
The background story about this doesn't lend itself to any other aspect of eve's gameplay or backstory. It's just an excuse for not flying in a first person pespective when none was ever needed. Eve's gameplay style makes this self evident. It was just as easy to pretend that you were looking some kind of tactical perspective composited from sensor readouts, but would have been better just left alone.
The end result of this ridiculous story is that people who want an option) for a first person perspective, or aknowlege that thier ships have crews, have to face an onslaught of flames and moaning from people who accept this story. The fact they are so willing to uphold the psychic pod people notion as if they are religious zealots becomes all the more reason to drop this pathetic backstory and start preteneding there are more people in the galaxy than just the pod people.

Same thing for POS. instead of POS using consumables like (Helium) to raise the pitch of your voice and (ICE) for softdrinks and boo-boos. How about food, electronics, seeds for a POS greenhouse that produces food, spare parts, metals for POS that creates electronics, livestock for a POS that creates beef.
An actual working galactic market. (I have an Iteron V, and tried the trade goods thing, doesnt work.)
