I've been running +4s since the LP store was introduced. Even PvPers dont need to get podded that often. I reckon I've spent appx 1 bill on +4s over 3 years, while getting +400 SP/Hr the whole time - an extra 10 million SP. That works out to 100 ISK per skillpoint. That's good value IMO.

You learn the basic skills as you need them, most are given out in early noob missions. Then while you get to grips with the game you use the 100% training speed bonus to burn through the basic learning skills to 4. You then touch up all the support skills etc you need for your chosen proffession missing out any long lvl 5 skills. You now have the isk to buy the advanced learning skills and time to train them all to 4. If you are a miner you are in a decent covetor, if a mission runner/ratter/pvper you are in a lvl 3 capable battlecruiser. Once you have all learning skills to 4 its up to you to decide if you are going to be in the game long enough and have a skill-intensive career lined up that training the skills to 5 is worth while (the basic ones generally are, the advanced generally not).
People maxing learning initially are idiots. Sp is fairly irrelevant in eve and new players are way too focussed in training rates and "efficiency". Why would anyone consider spending 3 months maxing learning but flying frigs when they could have decent enough learning skills and be flying battlecruisers with good support skills? Maxing learning early is for people with multiple accounts training up a char they aren't really using. Whoever told you you cant pvp below 8mil sp is an idiot. Sp has even less impact in PvP than in the rest of eve. The fact that the most powerful alliance in eve made its name in rifters (500k sp to fly well) and to an extent is kept there by them thanks to its unique recruiting mechanic should tell you that. If you had stayed and fought as a group of frigates against a black ops you should have won, they aren't exactly frig killers.

If learning skills need any changing it may be in refinement. You should be able to focus more on the learning you need. As it is people tend to miss out charisma on a pvp char that wont be doing leadership but thats about it. They need to train intelligence and memory skills mainly to train the learning for perception and willpower, which is a bit harsh.

No, no refinement. If someone wants to play the single most efficient way possible, then let em. It comes with sacrifice. I spent the first few days doing missions and getting my initial skills up. I have all my learning at +4,+3, and will be in cruisers tommorrow. I dont see what the big deal is. You make a choice, and stick with it. The OP doesnt want to be patient, and play the game.

Okay, I didn't bother to read the entire thread, just the first page. I cannot understand what the problem is. Would we hear the same whining if everyone said that you should train frigate, battleship and missiles to lvl 5 before anything else. Or all the electronics, navigation or machincal to lvl 5?
I started playing almost 2 weeks ago, I do lvl 2 missions and some lvl 3 missions in my fancy caracal. I about *just* got some of my learning skills up to 3. I am having fun, learning a lot, earning money and standing. Choosing to train learning skills is the same as choosing to learn anything else. People on here will tell you a lot of things on what is "best" to do, it is your choice to follow them. And while I have be told time and time again I should train them, no one has actually told me it is the first thing to do. Some say in 3 months, some say over a year.
I haven't been here long, but I love it. One of those reasons are the choices we are given. I wanted to do missions and fly around, so I waited with the learnings skills. I am doing caldari navy missions, so my standing with gallente is in free fall. So I won't be visiting gallente space any time soon. Again my choice. I have to join those that say the whiners are ex-wow. I have a brother that plays wow. While he do sit at the screen, he got lots of tools, macros, software and his screen looks like a rainbow. He sits there, clicking, doing the same things over. Alt-x, ctrl-4 and such. Looks boring as hell. I'm glad I haven't played WoW, apparently it would have made me incredibly lazy.
I am as noob as you get. Last mmo (not sure what that stands for, but I hope it include muds) I played was a text mud. Everything in EVE was new to me, and I have probably made a few non-efficient choices. But they are my choices, I have had fun and to heck with efficiency. Stop whining, play the game however you want and stick with your choices, good and bad.

Learning Skills are part of the test.
If you can pass through, you are EVE player. If you can't, you're ADHD kid without patience and we all welcome you back to CS and WoW

Hi all,
I like this thread a lot.
I do want to understand what he tries to explain and in some ways I do, but
People in EVE have a big freedom and you need to be able to handle this CCP gives you a world to get lost in at first and to control later, this you feel from the beginning.
There are few people who can live with total freedom, and create there own path.
Here you don't realy have a step by step piece off world were you can go to, you decides what you can do were to go what to learn how to fly when to fly it.
Follow your own guide and try to get in a good corp.
To bad for your friends who thought that the learning skills are to be done first they simply want to follow the path that is given instead of creating one off there own.
I do not want to be harsh but they thought for them that it was best to do learing skills first.
You already know that it is not.
Think free, Be free
Graps your freedom and enjoy.
Don't be affraid of your destiny, you know what to do, you have been here before. |

this game system is awsome. what is the problem? i think its a bit wierd that i cant "level up" it would be nice to be able to do that. but ive played WOW and its fun but you have to devote so much time to everything ingame and online it gets to the point were you either A: play and level up or B:go shower you filthy alliance bastard. ive been playing this game for maybe 3 days now. in my first day i hooked up with a wonderful (if small clan) who helped me acheive goals. i was lost as hell. barely understanding this wierd system not knowing what choices to make or what to do (the fact that that epicaly confusing star map still is beyond my grasp didnt help my situation). they helped me so much. i got a destroyer now (thanks to them throwing money at me cause i was mining for a living since my ubber nice frigate got destroyed) and am on my way to becoming the clans logistics/command ship pilot. in a week i should be able to get a logistics ship and next month i would say a SWEET command cruiser. i would still be in a weird limbo of not knowing what to make of my freedom and swimming around in lostness training any skill that looked sparkly to me. go find a niche if your new. find a nice small corp with some experience and let them help you. and help them. they all will likely have their own established role to play and the clan will be missing something and you can be that something. also as to the skills. its annoying and i kinda hate it. but if you dont have much free time then its sweet. i level things up that i need (or think i need up until it takes a day to train them. then when i go to bed i set up the long skills and BOOM im good next time i log on. yeah it sucked the first two days. i wanted to go out and tear the universe up. but with how little time i have to myself (im navy work everyday at least 6-2) its awsome. but *end rant* find a direction. train to it. and DONT TRAIN TO BE A JACK OF ALL TRADES!!!! thanks to the nagss for taking in a super noob.
