Hey all, I started using 3DsMax not too long ago and have been slowly getting better at it by following it's beginners tutorials and such. Well, the other day an idea clicked in my head and I decided, why not make ships from EVE Online and customize them to my liking? Thus I started modeling my first Kestrel Kustom :D Here's an image of how's it coming out so far. Opinions and constructive criticism appreciated. http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2605/kestrel.png
Now, my goal is to finally become skilled enough to make the male Rorqual :) Any ideas for future EVE-related projects are welcome.

Here's my constructive criticism: learn how to link properly--it's not that hard. Once that's done, I'll check it out. It's not that I'm lazy--I know how to copy and paste--it's that if it's possible to make a link clickable, you should make it clickable if you want people to see it. For it to not be clickable shows laziness on your part.

Well, if you like something to do, you could do some from the Ammatar Navy or from my sketches for Khanid T1 ships based on Caldari.

Of course highlighting text is so annoying isn't it - without the linked part you can directly see where you're going to without the CCP message. I know you can see the link destination in the status bar below but it's far far easier to see when you need to manually highlight, copy and paste it in a different tab/browser.

I've been keeping an eye on this game, but it sometimes doesn't look like it'll ever be finished.
However - there are so many ships and models to be made that the guys behind the project accept fan submissions, and use them.
The more people contributing the better!

I’ve no idea how far you want to expand your modelling skills but what I’d really like are some nice renders or even a few mini movies with small annimations where ships like the Manticore as an example (customized of course) would open their torpedo launch tubes. Or a heavily modified and overgunned hurricane extracting their guns from some sort of weapons bay. Haven’t seen such stuff so far but since we don’t have it ingame I could get my eye candy extraordinaire that way :P
Or how about a Machariel, IMO one of the best looking bad-ass battleship out there, with “some” extra guns and a sort of launch bay for drones (fighters :>). Basically make it an EVE version of galactica.

Well, I made the link lazy accessible now.
Istvaan, I'm going to add missile launchers to it, I just don't where yet. CCP really didn't leave a whole lot of room for hardpoints. Abbrazar, I'm loving those custom ships :D Especially your Ammatar ones. Definately will look into it
I'll be adding at least 1 pic everyday to my original post, so check back every now and then to see how it progresses!

at OP: not bad work at all! would be nice to see a pirate faction kessie and other ships that aren't just simple reskins.

I think this one would look pretty sweet if the pod section was centered. I dunno why CCP ship designers are so against making more symmetrical ships.

Yay! Update! Started the mapping and made a placeholder trophy map inside a random room that was made in 30 seconds. I got a paint scheme going, right now it's just a whole lot of shiny with a base color but sometime later this week I'll make sure it runs a few extravenganzas to wear down the candy paint with a few scorch marks.
