Edited by: Ulverious on 26/10/2004 10:11:56 Has anyone done any statistics on how many players are in empire vs. 0.0 space?
Personally I have no objection to the way 0.0 currently works but I would love an event giving the players a chance to weight in on having security hits extended to one or more regions of 0.0 space.
Would make good role-playing to. Some NPC fraction launching a law and order enterprise outraged over the killing of its law abiding citizens just outside their borders. The Gallante elections would be a good way of doing so. One of the presidential candidates runs on a ôlaw and orderö ticket. If he wins a 0.0 region adjacent to the Gallante confederation becomes empire space. Still 0.0 sec rating mind you but empire space so podding incurs sec hits. Would allows the players to decide - if there really is a massive numbers of players wanting a more secure sector of 0.0 to play in the votes should reflect that right?
Again I wouldnÆt especially want it but would have no objection to others having a playground. And I would love some events where my vote actually matters.
It even makes sense. Corporations lobby governments all the time to change the rules in RL.

Sorry for attempted thread highjacking but it seems to me that many of the heated debates about PvP vs PvE are really debates about the relationship between the individual being responsible for own safety vs. the society acting as protector of the week.
The Gallante elections should reflect this. Why not let the popular will decide?
I just wanna pitch my thread on this http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=119224

I'm not a historian or expert on African tribes but some of the rituals they do to their woman would be a life sentence over here. Even though we see what they are doing as a crime in our eyes. We do not hold them accountable and press charges if they came to our law abiding nation. Food for thought. Book? you seem to be a saine man. your thought on this? (like I had to ask.) *pokes Book*

¦ou sure about that?
We had some cases in my country were immigrants from Muslim countries took their daughters back to Somalia for female circumcision.
When they came back this was discovered by the authorities and they pretty much had the book thrown at them. Losing custody of the children was just the beginning.
DonÆt know what would happen in the US but at the very least IÆm sure the victims of those traditional customs would have standing to sue in US courts if the perpetrator was on US soil at the very least.
There might also be a number of treaties giving host countries universal jurisdiction in many cases. Pinochet being arrested in London for what he did in Chile is a good example. The courts pretty much have jurisdiction if they say they have.
