Edited by: Glengrant on 07/09/2009 18:33:37 Here's a less drastic alternative: Don't remove JBs - but make the fuel cost progressive. Same for jump-capable ships of course.
The farther the jump the progressively more fuel it needs. That way JBs would still serve a useful purpose as alliance infrastructure and keep regular intra-region trips from getting too tedious. But it would take many more jumps to cross the whole map.
That would achieve the stated goal of making alliance warfare again more local and super-coalitions less necessary as an answer to fast capital logistics. If your opponents can't assemble a super-fleet at the drop of a hat - then neither do you need to ally with everybody who's not already in the other camp.
Beyond that I have to say that while EVE *did* change a lot - most of the changes were improvements.
We all would be bored to death and highly annoyed with EVE 2004. Most of your favourite ship types would not exist. Corp management would suck way more than it still does. Many early design mistakes would still be around. Much less options all aroud. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Gotta disagree with you here.
Why would it be a good thing to have all of EVE at same travel-time to empire. Outlying low pop areas aren't a bad thing. Neither are outer empires - who have to build local infrastructure - or do trade with "middle" empires. That's way more interesting that having a uniform we're only a couple of good jumps from empire everywhere. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Then again... when are we even talking? Back when carriers could move anything themselves? I really doubt there was ever a situation where logistics were a problem for people.
Duno if you're joking here. I remember the days - long before carriers even existed where you could get really really isolated out in the deep deep 0.0. No conquerable npc stations, no outposts - just you, some stars and planets and nothing else. And the sure knowledge that your valuable deep space haul was eagerly awaited by gate campers at a choekpoint on your return trip.
Well - WH restored some of that feeling.
Don't really miss WT15 - everybody and his so had a zillion BM to have effective WT0. All those must-have BMs got very annoying. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Laptop, NVidia7900GS, Ubuntu 8.04, WINE |
