Well - its simple isn't it - jump freighters are just too damn expensive!
So why is it that a shp had been created to let players move stuff around instead of using capitals - and then then priced beyond most players reach so most people still use capitals. Will it unbalance the game so much if the price was somewhere around the 2bn isk point? I personally doubt it. Am I missing something - is it markeded at just the right level?
Come on Devs - do somthing about the stoopid price of what is little more than a souped up shopping trolley.

They are mostly meant as alliince logistic ships, not a one man venture.

Jump freighters border on cheating anyhow. They should be more expensive.

Jump logistics in any form is totally lame imo. Remember when alliances actually had to organise & defend (wait for it...)
Freighter runs?
Having massive logistics ops to build Cyvok's titan? Having the MC defend the ISS Borealis egg dropping convoy?
That stuff was majorly cool. I mean jump bridges, wtf?!

Cool or not, it was incredibly tedious.
Ambushing JFs at jumpbridges with solo suicide dreads is much cooler.

Ahh! Sweet memories of boredom, tedium and getting the hell scared out of me every time i jumped and looked at a local that wasn't empty.

I miss those days :( Sure it was a lot of work but I loved it. It did force the corp/alliance to work as a team not only on the battlefield. Only thing I do not miss is the log in traps that we had to fight with on our freighter runs. Imho eve was a better game with out all the jump logistics. Back then the entry systems to 00 was sometimes blue, sometimes red. It was important to defend gates and the hiways up and down from empire. Now all you need to defend is a ****ing POS at most. :/ Eve is a much simpler game today tbh.

It may have been "majorly cool" for the more powerful alliances, but it made building a powerful alliance all but impossible after the introduction of supercaps.

Logistics and movement should be a constraining factor in the growth and size of alliances.
As things are we get alliances taking space they hardly use just for moon mining or the occasional ratter.
It precludes the creation of smaller alliances that could otherwise exist in the voids of larger alliances.

I second that, although I am a newbie. Anyway. In my opinion, those ships are intended to be limited to a little number of players, i.e. just alliances or players chosing a transporter career can afford them.
I'm pretty excited by the possibility in EVE to give missions to other players by the use of contracts. Owning a Jump Freighter is a good way to specialize in that type of jobs. Hire a transporter because he's got a Jump Freighter, let him hire fighters to escort him, and so on, is just great and improves relationships between players and feel that EVE is a sandbox and that everyone counts. If everyone has the same role in the game, that is to say every roles, it's a little less interesting.
I'm aware I may be dreaming when thinking one can earn much money and live in EVE by carrying stuff around after having spent a lot of ISK in a Jump Freighter. But in that case, don't wake me up please.

Freighter runs were insanely dull and tedious. I am glad to see the back of them. A combat op, where it's a success if you _don't_ see combat? Yeah, that sucked.
But jump logistics are just rather easy too - perhaps too easy. Maybe what should be done is automated hauler services, that basically 'bounce' across a chain of POSes, over a period of time - it's slow, but requires no intervention unless it's attacked in transit.
Think 'oil pipeline' that you might have to patrol to stop people pillaging.

yeah let's complain about the removal of boring and tedious tasks so we have less time for pew pew
Jump Freighters should be cheaper. It's a PITA getting my crap out to actually fight with as it is.

Edited by: Sponde on 09/09/2009 21:10:20 Just a couple quick points regarding the JF.
I agree with many of the above posts, it needs to be expensive because of what it can do.
However, for those of you who think its a point and click "jump gear in turn key solution" think again. I sh*t my pants every time I use my JF. There is a myriad of check points that have to be established prior to using the JF. Numerous characters have to log on to check, re-check and triple check systems and surrounding areas to prevent an ambush. In addition, its jump range is rather limited, and therefore the route has to be planned very carefully.
As a result, in reality, I hardly use mine due to the difficulty in orchestrating the logistics necessary just to use a logistics ship! Why? Because everyone and their brother wants to gank the damn thing.
End result? Doesnt get used nearly as often as you would think, which is probably what CCP intended anyways.

Edited by: James Lyrus on 09/09/2009 21:52:00 I still use a carrier, because I can put rigged and insured ships in it - courier contracts work sub-BC, but I have battleships and command ships that need moving.

Moving stuff should be EASIER, not harder. One of the biggest problems with EVE is how long it takes to get a ship fitted for PvP, even when basing out of Empire (unless you are willing to pay extremely inflated prices for certain mods).

Theres a difference between moving a ship and moving a ship with months worth of supplies without risk.

Outpost eggs are 750k, and thus don't fit in jump freighters, if you want to drop an outpost (or an upgrade) you still need a freighter.
Of course you will use jump bridges and titans, but in this instance its not the evil jump freighter that's to blame for removing the boring bits of eve.

depending on how CCP prices it the point of "taking empty space" may become a null point, i mean they're planning on implementing the upkeep charges for the gates etc, which if priced correctly, could make it finally possible for large alliances to not want to keep regions they are only using for a single moon or something, personally i hope the prices are done exponentially so that a small gorup can grab a single region but for an alliance to grab 10 regions would cost 100x as much that way alliances are forced to choose their regions wisely and if they do expand actually have to put thought into how to best utilize it, oh and how to upgrade it since apparently thats coming as well.

I don't suppose it's the titans and poses jumpportals they mean rather than JF's for that specific instance?

I think the devblog did say that the larger an alliance's empire grows, the higher the costs to maintain their borders become. Whether that was saying the cost for each gate goes up the more you control or not, who knows. Hopefully it will stop the super alliances from taking space just to have iit through.
