Especially missile boats. Ravens, Golems, Tengus, Nighthawks and Drakes flying around all over the place. Amarr have had a good turnout, their dps still at the wtfpwn level. there have been a few Ishtars, Hurricanes, Domis and Sleipnir's too. But I've seen precious few matches where neither side fielded missile boats as their main tankers and damage dealers.
I find this quite amusing as missiles are often called the worst pvp weapon in the game. It seems tournament rules transform them into the best. Tackle seems to be an afterthought at best on any tournament ship bigger than a frigate. I'm not saying this makes caldari overpowered or anything silly like that. But I'm starting to think the nature of the tournament makes them a little too effective. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Well you have to qualify your statements better. Not all of the missile boats are having the same success, and missiles do have significant cons to them.
A careful review of the tournament would show that while you are correct about the ships being used, not all of them are making it off the field, nor are the teams that choose to field them.
Drakes in particular are not doing well. They simply cannont do enough damage to accent their tank. There are a respectable amount of Nighthawks, but those can easily do 500-600 dps and still have a tank comparable to a drake.
As far as the Tengu goes, is it being used effectively because it is a caldari missileboat, or because it is a Tech 3 ship. My vote is on tech 3.
The heavy Golem cap transfer fleet lost. Most of the ravens have also lost.
Missiles cons outweigh their pros imho. They are as susceptible or more even to speed tanking, they can be obliterated by smartbombs, and they are less effective than guns against small ships.
If you field a heavy missile using fleet, you had better hope that the enemy fleet is within your narrow range of acceptable enemies, or else you will simply flail around in the tar pit for a few minutes before sinking.

Yeah, but it's just the way things go unfortunately. I think it's also funny that T3 ships would be prize killmails on TQ, but the tournament means they get a fair shot at staying alive.
Every year the tournament has a certain theme that is more effective that other setups, which is why CCP change the rules for each tournament, to keep things fresh.
In AT5, it was the infinity-cap dual logistics setups and turtle tanking, in AT6 it was faction cruisers with damping ability, dictating range whilst spewing missiles or faster ships with high DPS avoiding fire.
I thought that this year things would be very even with no overpowered setups...and i still believe that. Bring on Round 2!

You might notice that most normal PvP doesn't involve being able to warp in at 50km against a foe that is expressly disallowed from warping without need of tackling them.

Might be the logistic limit forcing people to have more ewar on the field, and tracking disruptors+cap warfare is one of those. Logistics limit also promotes passive and active tanking I guess, in which shields are better.

Notwithstanding the rules of the tournament, ecm is still and maybe more than ever king (Rook 30% strength buff).
Also, this is truly a team event. Killmail whoring is not a real factor. Thus noone is worrying about their missiles' time to target. The prevailing tactic appears to be, get a ship scrambled, webbed, painted, jam the others, and let the missiles land.
