Flame if you like, but while mining this evening, the thought struck me... Why do the headlights on our barges never burn out? If they did, would we see a couple of guys jetting out in spacesuits to replace them?

heh, seeing random **** happen to your ship when its standing still would be win.
but the lamps would get replaced when you dock.
that said, i wouldnt mind a set of animations where if a ship hasnt docked for X amount of time, people do stuff to the outside, like float arund turrets with welders and ****.
obviously it shouldnt happen all the time or it would get boring.

i would love like idling drones to do a occasional barrel roll or corkscrew, or maybe test fire their guns and hover still.
and i would also like gun turrets to idly track stuff, so it can calibrate its systems, so for example having a battleship doing nothing the crew would test-target asteroids or space debris

i support this.
i would love to see crew come out when you've been idle to do random maintenance.
but only on cruiser and larger ships. 1. because frigates dont have that many crew with pod pilots. and 2 because frigs and dessies align to fast for a convincing end to the animation.

/signed! Like it.. and more fire when you are damaged into hull... not just the line that follows you, but animations taht look like bulkheads imploding and bits falling off...

Today, in 2009, a quality, energy-efficient light bulb has a lifespan of 5-10 years, even if left on continuously. Considering EVE is set in some distant future where we've colonised far reaches of space, I would think that the lamps in our ships could last equally as long, if not much much longer.
I do like the idea of adding some idle animations, though I doubt it's high on CCP's priority list.

you could have the animation while docked.. people repairing stuff... I meen there is already moving thinkg in the station background.. why not workers and more ships going in and out... that sort of thing
Also would like to see drones being bored and doing stuff.... they do have an AI afterall

Since there is no crew, I doubt it would happen. Most likely such small maintenance would be done in dock. Or automated maintenance drones in your ship. So those, you might see get out and replace it. But who knows, maybe it can be replaced from inside, too.

/signed... I'd love to see drones staging mock dogfights with each other, or guys in suits tinkering and fixing stuff on my ship while defending mining ops from rats (maybe even watch them freak and race for the airlocks when I light off a missile  )

Em, there's a crew indeed!
the pod pilot just replace ALOT of the crew, but not all the crew!
So there can be like 1 crew member on a frigate, but cruisers and up, there are accually quite alot of crew running about in the ship doing stuff!

there is indeed crew, maybe not on all frigates but there is definately crew.
i think ive seen it mentioned somewhere that having a pod pilot reduces the crew needs of a raven from 2,500 to a mere 500.
