If cap use was of any importance at the moment, lasers would be a lot more balanced. The prevalence of buffer tanks pretty much destroys weapon balance. Lasers would be weaker, or at least more risky to use, and projectiles would have a big advantage, if cap was more critical. Strangely, lasers are fotm right now, and people complain about projectiles.. ^^ The devs don't necessarily have to boost/nerf the weapon systems themselves.

I think changing shell/missile type should have a delay; but you should not need to reload the gun as it is a single barrel weapon and would be chain/belt/robotically fed from the arms you have in your hold
So remove the reloading timer, but keep the timer to swap ammo type and drop it to 5 sec
I generally like this suggestion, surprisingly. ------------------------------------------------ Suicide drones?

This tbh,
Instant ammo change is a pain if your fighting amarr only to find that the T1 crystals never run out, so no reload anyway and then they can instantly change ammo and keep hitting you when you try burn out of range.
It needs fixing / changing
Then reduce our cap use or replace the ship bonus that allow lasers to be used with one to boost the weapon instead.
All weapon systems are different, quick change ammo is the Amarrian benefit. You will find each weapon has a beneift to something somewhere.
Instant change was balanced until they added weapon grouping. Before you had to change each weapon one at a time. Now you swap all of them with one click. Pretty significant buff for a side effect.
How a bout a 5 second reload?

Minmatar weapons deal kinetic and 1 or 2 other types of damage. You don't pick the range with the type of damage either. most of the minmatar ammo is useless in most situations. Slight advantage in missions. Not so much in pvp.

When using a hulk in a belt, you chew through rocks pretty fast. Sometimes you don't have 2723698752 of the same rock sitting next to you, so CCP changed it to allow mining crystals to reload instantly. A side effect of this was allowing Amarr crystals to instantly reload as well, due to having the same charge classification.
Get your fact straight next time, crystals instantswap (1 sec) from even before mining barges were released in the game. So tell me how this could have been changed when they changed the strip lasers? Instant swapping crystals in lasers was in from the day I started (back somewhere in 2004). And only now people complain about it. Why? Because lasers got a boost to dps with the nerfing of em resists on the armor and armor tanking is still favoured above shieldtanking in pvp. CCP just dropped to much em resists in their try to make lasers more attractive in pvp. ---------------------------------- None of yet! |

That could be part of it. It's also the weapons groups. Now with lasers you can change the range of your weapons with one click and no wait.
